Ivar B Posted February 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see that Boris J. or SH Photo suddenly are moving trainloads of new Leica R equipment on eBay. I am pretty certain that Boris is not selling this on his own account or at the very least he must have some deal or other with Leica as it is next to impossible making money out of R gear these days I presume. Are Leica moving the last remaining R stock?

TimF Posted February 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2009 Any link? I can't find trainloads anywhere.
JHAG Posted February 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2009 Business a usual : around 600 Leica R items on sale through the world. Last time I checked (december), it was about the same.

Ivar B Posted February 26, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted February 26, 2009 I am on the mailing list of Boris, and I just had an e-mail notifying me of the special deals on the R system. Only new items and up to 65 % discount. If it is sellable, I do not know. Let us see if the list of available items are reduced in the coming days. robsteve Posted February 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 26, 2009 Maybe Boris has some bills to pay and needs to clear some inventory. There didn't seem to be any exceptional deals on the more valuable items, such as the 15mm. Robert
Fernmelder Posted February 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) If one finds a lowpriced 35/2 Summicron-M IVth version, please notify me.

There didn't seem to be any exceptional deals on the more valuable items, such as the 15mm. Robert There is - you can have it with 65 % discount also. Leica R 2,8/15mm ASPH. SUPER-ELMARIT-R special offer 11326 - SH photo These items have turned up now, so I doubt very much the idea is to clear inventory.
andybarton Posted February 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2009 Although this is off topic, there's a Summicron that you are looking for in the Buy and Sell section at the moment.
stunsworth Posted February 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted February 26, 2009 Clearing stock before the AF R10 is announced? Even if the R10 is backwards compatible with the current MF lenses, I'd expect people buying _new_ lenses to prefer the AF offering. No dealer's going to want their shelves groaning under the weight of MF lenses at that point. When's PMA? <grin>

Errm, I fear that those prices are a bit too high for me as a poor college student.
sdai Posted February 26, 2009 Share #12 Posted February 26, 2009 There are some really good prices, some are even lower than what's going on eBay from other seller based on my tracking record. Too bad, I've already got almost all that I want ... at even better prices.

Are Leica moving the last remaining R stock? I think Ivar, that you've hit the nail on the head and Leica have sold off all the remaining R stock simply to clear space and prepare for the R10. lct Posted February 26, 2009 Share #14 Posted February 26, 2009 If one finds a lowpriced 35/2 Summicron-M IVth version, please notify me. It is not an R lens and the IVth it is a sought after version so i would not hold my breath if i were you. The Summicron-C 40/2 has a close rendering for a more affordable price, FWIW. SteveYork Posted February 27, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 27, 2009 There's been a couple dealers placing new R equipment on Ebay at steep discounts. I just saw a new R9 w/ USA warranty go for $1500 -- that's more then 1/2 off. In fact, I just outfitted a new R system with 3 lenses (35/2 50/2 80-200/4) for a trip this fall and I got all the lenses with full warranties at more than 60% off. And frankly, that's the only way I would ever buy new Leica stuff anymore, because it's gotten so very expensive. This tells me something is up, and I suspect it has to do with the R10. Yes, the values with the German dealer look good, but those prices are for export only. The folks in the EU need to fork over another 20%.
TimF Posted February 28, 2009 Share #16 Posted February 28, 2009 Leica R9 System Sonderangebot Klaus, Many thanks for that. I'd actually managed to find my way to the regular SH Photo site (via another link placed on this forum). Very useful - I picked up a 90 APO last night for a reasonable price (compared to the regular one). Might even have been the last one, as it's not appearing there this morning. They don't have the other lens I was really looking for - the 280mm/4 Apo-Telyt, but a random visit to ffordes turned up treasure in a nice used copy for less than a third of the new price. Tim I missed that in Ffordes' list (not that I need to buy one, since I already have one, but I always look)! I saw a couple of the older (pre-module system) 280/2.8 but not the 280/4. Was this long ago?
TimF Posted February 28, 2009 Share #18 Posted February 28, 2009 Yesterday evening John. It was listed as "new in", so can't have been there more than a few hours. There is a God it seems! Oh, and the 90 APO is still on SH Photo FWIW.

TimF Posted March 1, 2009 Share #20 Posted March 1, 2009 No, 3-cam, though I could of course make enquiries about having it 'upgraded' if that service exists still. We'll see in due course whether it'll go on an R10 (if such appears - and if so I'd expect it would work much like a manual focus Nikkor would on a pro Nikon DSLR, ie no programme or shutter priority modes, which I don't use anyhow), but for now it'll have to go on a C***n DSLR; the DMR is too old and far too expensive even used (£2.5K on ffordes as I'm sure you've seen! ) My desire is that the Canon will be a stop-gap solution only, but we'll see what transpires. For now I'm just very pleased to have even found one.
