tashley Posted February 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mildly irritated here: I paid for my M to Micro 4/3rds by Paypal on 9th Feb and got an almost immediate acknowledgement. I then sent a request for shipping update on 19th Feb and still have no adaptor and no reply... Anyone else had theirs? Tim

farnz Posted February 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 25, 2009 That's surprising, Tim, because Steve Gandy has always been amazingly fast with email responses and deliveries when I've dealt with him in the past. Is it possible that your email may have elicited the attentions of a spam filter perhaps? Perhaps a quick phone call to find out what's gone wrong? (At the risk of teaching a grand-photographer to suck eggs, if you call the USA through TeleDiscount from the UK it's only 1p per minute.) Pete. miami91 Posted February 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2009 Stephen Gandy has a note on his website ( Adapters:* SLR to RF ) that says the following: Feb 7th: The first shipment of Leica M lens to Micro 4/3 adapters has arrived and shipped out. The 2nd shipment is estimated to start shipping about Feb 27th. IF you are on the waiting list and have NOT been notified that your adapter is ready, you remain on the wait list for next available adapter. Adapters on the waiting list will be ship in the order paid for. This is not to excuse no reply to your email, but may explain the lack of shipment. I've also always found Stephen to be great to deal with --- have bought many CV lenses for my Ms from him the past few years. Best regards, Jeff. tashley Posted February 25, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted February 25, 2009 Thanks guys, I'll give him a call - his last email seemed to imply that a batch was in and ready to ship to those on the list provided they coughed up quickly. @Mark, I haven't quite given up: my plan is to see how it fares with my M glass because it might make a backup body for travel light trips. In terms of stand alone, I'm afraid it's just not good enough. I got a shot I really liked with it a couple of weeks ago and was just annoyed that I hadn't taken the M8 with me. Like the Sigma DP1, the G1 can produce very good (albeit rather 'processed') results when the wind is in exactly the right direction but above ISO 100 I generally wish I'd been less lazy and used something else. So if my experiments with the adaptors confirm Sean's results I'll sell the G1. Who wants a backup that adds multiplier effect AND can only be used with longer lenses?.... But I'll keep the adaptor to try on whatever MFT comes next! How 'bout you? Best t
Bo_Lorentzen Posted February 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2009 Tashley, Im keeping mine.. My girlfriend have snatched it and have no intentions of giving it back. I did get to play with the M lenses on it but have not been seduced to give up the M8 quite yet. As for future micro four thirds.. I am very interested in the rumored G1-HD version which might be very cool for shooting indie productions... probably will pick one up and use it on a job to find out. I tested, as you know, with a 28 Summicron. Cheers, Sean
marknorton Posted February 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted February 26, 2009 Tim, I remember thinking when I bought mine whether the question would be posed here: "Is the G1 a better (or as good as) M camera than the M8?" The different comparisons from you and Sean and others have shown it does well at its price point, is not up to the M8 at, say, 15 times the price by the time you put a lens on it and is not particularly good with M lenses. That said, I really like the camera and can see some pointers to how a future M camera might work - part time live-view, focus confirmation in the viewfinder, articulated LCD display and so on. I like focussing in those difficult situations where the M8/my eyesight struggle - close up, wide open, long lens and came as a huge relief from my constant issues with back-focussing lenses (and focus shift on the 35mm Summilux which I swore I never had until you went to Venice!). The crop factor is a problem though. I think Panasonic have done brilliantly with this camera, daring to be different and that's why I'm keeping it. It's the closest I have too to a P&S camera...
