wilfredo Posted February 2, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking to redoing my website. I can no longer upload photos to my current website and the folks who designed it for me are of no help. Any ideas? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Photo Websites. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Overgaard Posted February 2, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2009 As far as I can tell you should be able to use Dreamweaver which run on both Mac and PC platform and which one could consider to be the "standard" in web editors. That some of your pages are PHP confuses me but (in case you don't have the website in a folder on your computer) you can download the full website structure and all pages using the PageSucker Homepage software. Then, when opening the pages in Dreamweaver you will be able to add pages, etc. You might have to do a little cleanup but it seem to work though you will have to know a little about editing HTML documents. Hope that helps.
Overgaard Posted February 2, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 2, 2009 Hmm, just looked some more. Might be a little confusing but you could check and see if you can make something out of it as it seem to rely on some external files (which you might be able to download and make local working files). joppepop Posted February 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2009 That's right, you can download the entire site to your computer and redo its structure before uploading it again, perhaps somewhere else. Question is if you're acquainted with web development tools? If so, another option would be to use a ready made framework for image galleries. There are plenty of them out there. I’m not sure how other tools work but making a photo gallery similar to the ones you have is actually quite easy with Apple’s Aperture. It is possible to add a lot of text info to each photo and you can decide if you want a index page which leads to the larger pictures, or a journal page where you can write more freely around your images. But still, you will have to work with the html code in one way or another to adopt the other pages on your site, at least to point to the new gallery pages. Anyway, I really liked your photos, and it would be sad if you couldn't upload more of them!

Wilfredo, I always encourage serious amateur photographers to learn basic Dreamweaver. It's a worthwhile investment of time and energy over the long term. It seems like a lot to learn, but it's relatively easy to do basic stuff. It's also satisfying. And frees you from dependence on others. Worth considering, I think. There area also many Lightroom and Photoshop galleries available, both html and Flash. They have less flexibility but do the work for you. A Dreamweaver home page with LR or PS galleries would be pretty easy to build and maintain. You might also like the free Flash viewers from Airtight Interactive. Good luck with your project.
