Advertisement Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Hi stuny, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaques Posted August 8, 2012 Share #10542 Posted August 8, 2012 Nope- not in the Kimberly- it's of volcanic origin- possibly quite recent (geologically speaking)
jaques Posted August 9, 2012 Share #10543 Posted August 9, 2012 ok- the lake is somewhat obscure so this is my last clue- the lake is situated next to this well known celebrated lake: Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted August 9, 2012 Share #10544 Posted August 9, 2012 I cannot think of any famous lakes in Australia, but this one being so blue suggests quite a rarity in mainland Oz - a glacial lake. Maybe Blue Lake?
larsv Posted August 9, 2012 Share #10545 Posted August 9, 2012 Stuart, Google tells me you are right about the last picture. Look at google maps to find the lake in the initial picture, which is adjacent. Best, Lars
stuny Posted August 9, 2012 Share #10546 Posted August 9, 2012 You suggestion takes me to Leg of Mutton Lake.
jaques Posted August 10, 2012 Share #10547 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) yes the second lake pictured is indeed the (somewhat) famous and amazingly absurdly blue "Blue Lake" of Mt Gambier...Which isn't glacial BTW- it is volcanic in origin and the exact cause of the blueness is somewhat of a mystery. However Leg of Mutton lake is dry and has been for some decades if memory serves me correctly... The lake we need is very near- a matter of a few hundred meters...
