Bristol, but I’m just guessing (and looking at the map 🙂 )

edit: I had no clue who Ian McKellen was. But GIYF and of course I recognized him. I am on vacation in Flensburg and saw a shop named after the Gandalf character I mainly know him from.

Well done Al

To explain all the clues: Clivden was owned by the Astors and made famous for the Profumo affair in which two alleged call girls had simultaneous affairs with a Russian attache and John Profumo - Profumo resigned because he lied to parliament about it and spent the rest of his life doing charitable work - They apparently all met at Clivden. At the trial (of an Osteopath accused of living off immoral earnings)Mandy Rice Davies was told that Lord Astor had denied an affair, or even knowing her to which she replied “he would wouldn’t he” (Clue 1) to the amusement of the court.

The house is often used as a  film set Cinderella, Help (Beatles) and Ian McKellen played John Profumo in the film Scandal all shot at Clivden. The Astor family funded the NY public library.

Clivden is owned by the National Trust and is  hotel.
