Not in or near Alsace. However, this place is in the one other region of France that is well known for it's half-timbered buildings. 

As good as your observation of this feature was, this town is well known for something else.

"Not too far" is pretty relative. Let's  just say it's closer to Belgium than it is to Germany.

This well known thing has more of an artistic or historic fame.
