You don't recognize the tower because the second is cleverly hidden at this angle.
AZach Posted August 18, 2021 Share #20003 Posted August 18, 2021 So, Rouen then? Or Caen or Evreux?

This town is not on the coast and escaped the devastation of other Normandy towns. There is a WWII museum here, but most visitors come here to view an artifact created to commemorate another much earlier battle.

stefans4 Posted August 19, 2021 Share #20010 Posted August 19, 2021 ... I think the key word here is "romantic"... it looks like one of the beautiful (yet artificial) ruins erected in landscape gardens ("English" gardens) mainly in England, France, Germany, and Austria in the 18th and 19th century... very picturesque... Quite correct, this garden was built the latter half of 18th century and it also includes an impressive formal “French” garden part.

stefans4 Posted September 4, 2021 Share #20017 Posted September 4, 2021 ... I think I know where / what it is... a few years ago, it did not quite make it to UNESCO World Heritage status but is certainly comparable - and is, in any case, very beautiful, as the photos show. But I don't have access to my photos at this time, so if correct I cannot show anything. Should I still submit my guess (to try to move things forward)? Or should I keep my mouth shut...? stefans4 Posted September 4, 2021 Share #20019 Posted September 4, 2021 ... thanks, so here is my guess: Schwetzingen Castle and Park (near Heidelberg, SW Germany). The last photo is of the entrance, very beautifully seen... And apologies again that if this turns out to be correct I cannot show anything...
