These would match Normandy - have lived near Rouen some years (30+ years ago) but cannot identify the tower in your picture…

Ah, you're almost there, Normandy is the region.  You don't recognize the tower because the second is cleverly hidden at this angle.

Dieppe...?

No, not Dieppe either.  This town is not on the coast and escaped the devastation of other Normandy towns.

There is a WWII museum here, but most visitors come here to view an artifact created to commemorate another much earlier battle.

... I think the key word here is "romantic"... it looks like one of the beautiful (yet artificial) ruins erected in landscape gardens ("English" gardens) mainly in England, France, Germany, and Austria in the 18th and 19th century... very picturesque...

Quite correct, this garden was built the latter half of 18th century and it also includes an impressive formal “French” garden part.

... I think I know where / what it is... a few years ago, it did not quite make it to UNESCO World Heritage status but is certainly comparable - and is, in any case, very beautiful, as the photos show.

But I don't have access to my photos at this time, so if correct I cannot show anything.

Should I still submit my guess (to try to move things forward)? Or should I keep my mouth shut...?
