Robert M Poole Posted July 13, 2017 Share #17043 Posted July 13, 2017 The architecture reminds me of Scotland, doesn't remind me of anywhere in Edinburgh or Aberdeen. Glasgow?
Jim-St Posted July 14, 2017 Share #17044 Posted July 14, 2017 You have the town, Robert: but can you locate the scene, or identify the building? Jim PS I'm amazed at your perception of this as "Scottish" architecture. Maybe more on that later...
Jim-St Posted July 16, 2017 Share #17045 Posted July 16, 2017 OK, best just get this thread moving again... Glasgow it is, Robert, so your turn next.. Note: The building in the background is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. One of Glasgow's most-loved buildings, it was the work of a London-based architectural team, and the city's museums department describes its style as "Spanish Baroque" (see here). The two bronze figures in the foreground of the photo are Philosophy (left) and Inspiration (right), and this is one of four pairs of statues which adorn the Kelvin Way Bridge, behind the museum. More on these here Finally, another view of Kelvingrove, showing how late afternoon sunlight from the can illumine the red sandstone, the key hallmark of Glasgow's late C19/ early C20 heritage. So Robert, that's why I'm amazed that you discerned Glasgow in my B&W-converted image! Jim Welcome, dear visitor! Robert M Poole Posted July 16, 2017 Share #17046 Posted July 16, 2017 Hi, sorry missed your last post. As soon as I saw it I thought Edinburgh, maybe I subconsciously remembered it from visiting Kelvingrove a couple of years ago. Jim-St Posted July 17, 2017 Share #17048 Posted July 17, 2017 Hi Robert- In structure this is clearly an ancestor of Kelvingrove! Must admit when I visited Carlisle Castle last year the similarity completely eluded me! Jim

Michael Geschlecht Posted July 18, 2017 Share #17055 Posted July 18, 2017 Hello Jim, There is actually a reasonably large part of today's Southern Italy that is currently not a part of Spain. But effectively had been a while back. Best Regards, Michael
a.j.z Posted July 18, 2017 Share #17056 Posted July 18, 2017 to be precise: no part of Southern Italy or Italy in general is part of Spain ;-)
AZach Posted July 18, 2017 Share #17057 Posted July 18, 2017 The Kingdom of Sardinia was a part of Spain during the rule of the Aragons for about 4 centuries. So a wild guess is that we see Isabella d'Aragon riding in Cagliari.
Jim-St Posted July 18, 2017 Share #17058 Posted July 18, 2017 Not Sardinia, but your insular approach will get you there! Jim Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Michael Geschlecht Posted July 18, 2017 Share #17060 Posted July 18, 2017 (edited) Hello Michael, Different people. Different times. Don't forget there were even Vikings to consider at other times. And don't forget the Greeks. Etc. Best Regards, Michael Edited July 18, 2017 by Michael Geschlecht
