sls Posted July 16, 2015 Share #15246 Posted July 16, 2015 Ravenna is a well educated guess as this church is in the same time-frame and country as Sant Apollinare in Classe and San Vitale in Ravenna. San Vitale was the daddy of this style, copied widely, but San Vitale is a completely different 'Hagia' Byzantine design. So at least it's Italy. France - The Franks only adopted Christianity a few years before this was built and so were probably sitting in mud huts.

sls Posted July 20, 2015 Share #15259 Posted July 20, 2015 More like Valle D'Aosta. Fenis. It is typical Lombardy style, 14th C. It was a very strategic area at the time, indeed for centuries, into the Napoleonic period. Happy memories of the vineyards of Piedmonte and the Gianduja factory. A magical part of the world. otto.f Posted July 21, 2015 Share #15260 Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) You're right sls. Very nice fresco's too, which are miraculously well kept (12th or 13th century) without any restaurations thus far. Your turn! Welcome, dear visitor!
