doubice Posted November 27, 2010 Share #6221 Posted November 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Franz KAFKA ? Gérard ....... The person was connected with the arts and is not very well known outside of the Czech republic. Once you find where the statue is located, it should not be difficult to identify...... I would hope that Franz Kafka was well known outside of the Czech Republic.... The person that we are looking for is a Czech writer / poet / dramatist / translator who lived during the second half of the 19th and died in the early 20th century. Michael Geschlecht Posted November 27, 2010 Share #6222 Posted November 27, 2010 Hello Jan, Is this the person who is MISTAKENLY given credit for invention of the term "Robot"? Best Regards, Michael
doubice Posted November 27, 2010 Share #6223 Posted November 27, 2010 Hello Michael, I don't believe that Karel Čapek is "mistakenly" credited for the word 'Robot'. It indeed was him and his brother Josef who coined the word for the first time, in the play R.U.R. ('Rossum's Universal Robots'). Earlier terms used to be 'automaton' or 'android'. Unfortunately, the statue is not of Karel Čapek. Best, Jan

doubice Posted November 28, 2010 Share #6226 Posted November 28, 2010 Yes, Jaroslav Vrchlický it is. The statue is on one of the most beautiful walks over the Petřín hill - from Malá stana (Kleine Seite) to the Hradčany castle. Unfortunately, hidden in the folliage in the Google map I posted a link to above. Reiner, well done and your turn.
