spylaw4 Posted January 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I believe that the main celebrations in London are to be on Sunday 1 Feb, although that actual New Year Day is Monday 26 January. Just wondering if anyone is up for a "snap" meeting in London similar to last year?

gravastar Posted January 20, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 20, 2009 Count me in, I hope to make it as well! Last time for the Year of the Rat celebrations I found that in the Chinese quarter the police had enforced a one way system for pedestrians so you couldn't walk casually around. So we may need to take that into account. Bob.
Tim B Posted January 24, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 24, 2009 Brian, Is there some confusion over dates? CNY begins on 26th Jan, but the Mayor of London website indicates that the main parade and celebrations are to be on 11th Feb not 1st. Mayor of London - Chinese New Year Has the website made an error? Or am I being dense? (Quite possibly:o ) Please could you clarify arrangements for our meeting? Thanks, Tim

spylaw4 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted January 24, 2009 Without re-checking - Steve's right! I made that mistake initially but further research arrived at the right date. 1 Feb. There will probably be some activity in Gerrard Street in the morning before the parade, but I suggest that we meet up in the Chandos around 12:30, as per last year IIRC? Tim B Posted January 24, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 24, 2009 Steve, So .. this is not 2008 then? Oh, yes, I wondered why I got strange looks at work when I turned up on Sunday the other week! Thanks for putting me right. Lesson number two - "I must not click on a Google link without reading the text." "I must not click on a Google link without reading the text." "I must not click on a Google link without reading the text." "I must not click on a Google link without reading the text." We know Boris is a bit out of touch, but you'd think that he would get the web site for Chinese New Year up to date. Cheers, all, See you Sunday 1st, I hope. spylaw4 Posted January 26, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted January 26, 2009 Some more information for those coming along can be found here, and here. The Chandos looks as though it will be a good base. I suggested 12:30 but if the feeling is that that time might clash with events then we can adjust. Would 12:00 noon be better?
