A small thought (call me a naggerd): I wonder what would happen if you crop the right a little. I'd crop right and bottom just so the crop ends on the edge of the actual stairs. It will perhaps make it even more abstract and get rid of the small dark triangle top right. I would never loose the top left, as that adds to the overall depth. Worth looking a little longer! I am reluctant to crop pictures, and when I do it is with a view to correcting minor errors (this may qualify). I always wondered about the black corner, and you are right.
