Riccis Posted January 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2009 Please know that I don't have any inside information but after seeing all this special editions coming up (black with silver controls, top plate engraving, multiple cover colors, etc...) I get the impression that Leica will be expanding the a-la-carte program in the near future to include the M8.2. Cheers,
erl Posted January 4, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2009 It's a complete contadiction of the great trouble that Leica went to to keep the classic and simple lines on their basic model. And that orange sticker on the front screams at the red leather. So would I.
thompsonkirk Posted January 4, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 4, 2009 Looks like Dr Kaufmann has sold Leica back to Hermes. I don't like these colors very muich, so I'm holding out for the turquoise snakeskin. Kirk
batmobile Posted January 4, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 4, 2009 hideous, naff and cynical. If true.
leolaksi Posted January 4, 2009 Share #12 Posted January 4, 2009 If this is true, so sad Leica has to resort to this. Agree the top plate is nice.
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted January 4, 2009 Does anyone think this will stimulate sales of the Panasonic G-1 (which has been adopted as a Leica lens platform) in its variant colors of red and blue? scott
ChrisC Posted January 4, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 4, 2009 hideous, naff and cynical. If true. A trifle harsh I think. I think it will glow nicely under the red neon lights of up-market whorehouses. [Leica glow means different things to different people]. ................ rob_w Posted January 4, 2009 Share #17 Posted January 4, 2009 FWIW my wife just walked past the monitor and pronounced the red leica "cool!" (And No, she's not Posh, although she does belong to the same half of the human race!) What do we know??
Ronazle Posted January 4, 2009 Share #18 Posted January 4, 2009 While the color scheme is not to my personal liking, if it is profitable to Leica I support the decision wholeheartedly. Despite problems I have encountered with the M8, my self interest dictates a desire for Leica to be fiscally sound. Also, red is a much more fortuitous and desirable color in East Asia than in the West. ron:)
ChrisC Posted January 4, 2009 Share #19 Posted January 4, 2009 ..... my self interest dictates a desire for Leica to be fiscally sound...... Would that be the same 'fiscally sound' as when Leica were in bed with those ludicrous, Parisian, bespoke-handbag makers? If so, my recollection is different. With Leica's past record, flirtations with Fashionistas is not a good sign, though easier than much needed revitalisation of some of their designs no doubt. Maybe I've jumped the gun and the limited edition reddie will be cheaper than the non-red M8.2? If not; it should be. ................ Chris
trs Posted January 4, 2009 Share #20 Posted January 4, 2009 I had put a bid on MP looked like that which I ended up loosing the bid. Actually, color combo does not look bad to me. However, I'm not rushing to buy it.
