vdb Posted December 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would you crop out the human hand? I chose to leave it as the lead rope would otherwise just be hangin'...
Advertisement Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Hi vdb, Take a look here Introductions 2.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted December 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 12, 2008 Right choice. Lovely picture. Making friends - that's really nice.
azzo Posted December 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2008 Just another idea that IMHO works just as nice too. Either way, it's a lovely capture and your presentation is awesome. Well done.
stuny Posted December 12, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2008 Virgil - You certainly make excellent photographic use of these horses. The hand is all but invisible, so I do not consider it an issue. The image is lovely for moment, composition, depth, detail and tonal range, nicely set against a winter landscape. I also like Ivan's crop, which makes it more intimate.
vdb Posted December 12, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted December 12, 2008 Thank you Stuart and Ivan. I do like the tight crop.

Michael Hiles Posted December 12, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2008 Well, to be controversial, I like the original best. The cropped version is classic and well proportioned, but the original is a picture of a more complex and interesting dynamic. Believe in the coming together of your mind's eye and your shutter finger.
vdb Posted December 12, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted December 12, 2008 I like Ivan's crop as it directs the attention to the 2 equines that are touching. The uncropped version tells the inside story: As the new horse is meeting the herd leader (Chiron), the dark Arab is keeping her distance as she is #3 in the herd. She shows the greatest anxiety at this moment--she has to wait for Chiron to accept the new horse. Until then, she remains on high alert. Meanwhile, the grey Arab in the background has already sensed that Chiron has accepted her, so he is comfortable grazing. Having said all that, I've confused myself...I'll keep both versions!
