ijporter Posted December 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is more leisure time than sports! Penny is our 9-year old Golden Retriever (who's not gold and doesn't retrieve!). Millie is my daughter's 4-month old kitten. The two pets actually like each other, but Penny will try to submit to anything - including a kitten! Penny is what we might call 'affection enhanced' but cerebrally challenged'! Millie is in the process of working this out. R6 90 f2 Kodak Portra 160 scanned to B/W. Ian

jaredguess Posted December 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2008 I love this. Its great seeing two different animals trying to figure out each other psychology. My parents 10 year old golden retriever and 6 month old kitten also get along quite well so I can relate.
stuny Posted December 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2008 Ian - An adorable shot, very nice detail, crop, light, contrast and tonal range.
louloumum Posted December 11, 2008 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2008 Ian, Completely wonderful situation captured so controlled in all ways...! BTW I had to laugh out loud when reading your intro. Having a really ridiculous but good hearted Lab myself, who doesn't retrieve anything either (she rather steals in stead - e.g. shoes) this image calls to something very "homely" (don't know if that word makes any sense at all in English ?) All the best __________________ Marie-Louise

Michael Hiles Posted December 12, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2008 Marie-Louise and Marco are right. Thse animals deserve a hug. Come to think of it, perhaps I could use one about now.
Marquinius Posted December 12, 2008 Share #9 Posted December 12, 2008 Come to think of it, perhaps I could use one about now. OK, here's a virtual one! HUG. I had one spare. BTW: the downside of having a cat and a dog is that they understand each other better than you understand one of them (no joke, scientific fact!). In our case, Marie (cat) and Fleur (Labrador) had a pact that ended with me coming downstairs and finding the big iron pan on the floor which had contained (note "had") a very nice stew. Clean as a whistle. Never heard the bang, crash, wallop. Two silly grins asking for a hug, burping softly behind their paws. Marco
Michael Hiles Posted December 12, 2008 Share #10 Posted December 12, 2008 Hug appreciated:p And the story is absolutely wonderful.
vdb Posted December 12, 2008 Share #11 Posted December 12, 2008 Beautiful moment Ian! I live with many animals and have learned to appreciate living in the moment---as that is all there is, right? This photo captures the essence of being throughly, 100% present, and in the moment. One minor thought that could improve the image would be a sharper focus on the labs eye...maybe selective focus on the eye as that is the story of this image (in my mind anyway!). ijporter Posted December 16, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted December 16, 2008 Thanks for the comments. I agree that a more precise focus of Penny (killer dog)'s eye would be better, but this was the best I could do in the circumstances. Ah, for an AF R10!
