R-lenses: soldes price

There's a shop near to me that is selling off R-lenses new (not 2nd hand) at bargain prices. Two examples:

19 at 2500 Euro,

80 - 200 at 1500 Euro.

Does this mean that the R-line will be no more produced?

Fernando.

Fernando, I just had an opportunity to discuss this with the folks at Leica in New Jersey. I'm told it's full steam ahead on development of the R10. Besides, no M8 can compete with my DMR.

Ben,

if I understand what you wrote "between the lines" you are suggesting me to find a 2nd hand DMR. Right?

Well, I already considered it, seeing what you and other users get from it. What keeps me from actively look for one of them is how much could it be reliable (my R4 is 27 years old, my R6 is 20).

Fernando.

At the Leica Info Meeting Nov 15th at Wetzlar there was following anouncement concerning lens compartibility:

- Die R10 wird abwärtskompatibel

- Springblende und zumindest Zeitautomatik werden mit R-Objektiven möglich sein

- nicht alle neuen elektronischen Gimmicks mit den alten Objektiven

- die ersten neuen Autofocus Objektive werden Zooms sein.

- aus diesem Grund findet man auch einige alten R Objektive schon nicht mehr im

Sortiment , z.B 21-35.

Hi,

I am wondering if the ROM based infomation will be of any relevance for the R10. In other words: will it be able to read out the ROM chip? This is quit important for me, as I am trying to get some R second hand stuff before, maybe, prices are going up again after the release of the R10.

Regards

Christoph

I don't know, and for instance the aopextender 1.4x has no ROM, but I would be hesitant to buy a non-ROM lens right now.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the R10 knew which MF-lens is mounted in order to be able to do "what other digital cameras do with that knowledge"? On the other hand, I am not sure if I would like an image taken with the 1.4/80mm to be software optimized. We will see!

For me, I DON"T WANT an autofocus R Leica. It defeats the purpose of mastering me tools to paint what I want, not some "optimized" image. All the bells & whistles are the problem, not the solution. I do believe that Leica will offer more than one solution for the SLR field. People are bought in to shooting what they see in real time through the viewfinder. Let the tourists look at the LCD on the rear end.

Ben -

It seems logical that the R10 will have autofocus that can be toggled on or off. As our eyes continue to age we may come to appreciate that.

that's exactly what the (very rude) Leica dealer in Frankfurt told me. "Leica users are old and can't see properly, they will love the R10 with autofocus"...

Spot on Stuny!!!;)

The day that happens, I'll bequeath all my gear to my son & get the newest DLux so I can have a camera take pictures for me, not that i would be able to see them.
