fotografr Posted December 2, 2008 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simple fix to having the numbers reset when you do a firmware upgrade.Take a card and take a shot. Take that card out and use another card to do the FW update. After the FW update is done and you have turned the camera off take the card out you use to do the update and insert the one you just took one image with. Turn the camera on and VIEW/PLAY that one image on the cameras LCD screen. Hit the info button to view the number on that image. Take one more shot, hit the play then the info button to view the number of the new image you just took (it shouyld be the next number after the one that was on the card), format the card in the camera. Your numbering well continue from that number on. This can happen anytime. Say I had a card I hadn't used in several months and it had images left on it and the last image was numbered L1004678 and the camera was now recording images in the L1008xxx range. If I stuck that card in the camera and VIEWED the images on that card the camera would remember the last image number taken on that card and start numbering images from that last image number. Even if you don't have an image saved on a card to do this with, you can just shoot a DNG, download it and re-number it manually to what you want it to be, then put it back on the card and follow the above procedure. fotografr Posted December 2, 2008 Share #22 Posted December 2, 2008 Has anyone else noticed improved Auto White Balance in this firmware upgrade coming from the 2.0 firmware? Or am I just imagining it? Actually, I noticed the opposite. Mine had been great but was completely messed up after the update, so I did a re-install and it now seems like it was previously. Artorius Posted December 2, 2008 Share #23 Posted December 2, 2008 So, can someone actually confirm that the update works with an SDHC card if you already have v2.0? I have an M8.2 (i.e. firmware version is 2.0) and I don't even have an SD card. I don't really want to buy one just for this update... Thanks, Edi. SDHC does work if going from v2.0. I read somewhere that it would, and yes indeed it does. I used a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card and it worked.

oronet commander Posted December 2, 2008 Share #31 Posted December 2, 2008 Any reason not to upgrade? Just the fear of 'bricking' the camera if anything goes wrong. I don't care about the numbering bug and don't have the new lenses; if that are the only improvements, I'd have no reason to upgrade
paga Posted December 2, 2008 Share #32 Posted December 2, 2008 Any reason to upgrade? Placebo effect?! Will my talent to take good photos finally improve if I upgrade?
Knorp Posted December 2, 2008 Author Share #33 Posted December 2, 2008 This is why you might want to upgrade: “Bug Fixes“: a. If LEICA M8.2 cameras are set to the “Discreet” option and to single exposures, an unintended “black image” may have occurred when the finger was not completely lifted from shutter release button before pressing it down again for the next shot. (Not valid for LEICA M8 Cameras) b. Setting “AUTO-ISO” in combination with lens dependent setting of the slowest shutter speed: the camera will switch to the higher ISO when the shutter speed corresponding to “1/focal length” is reached (was 1/focal length + 1 f-stop). c. Correct display of image numbering. d. Correct display of the fastest sync speed in the menu (1/180s on upgraded M8 and M8.2, 1/250s on M8). My free service to you Kind regards. trs Posted December 2, 2008 Share #34 Posted December 2, 2008 Other thing I worry about not upgrading is that someday new fw may require minimum fw on the camera like many software upgrade require which could one I skipped to upgrade to. -t
odyocu Posted December 4, 2008 Share #35 Posted December 4, 2008 Jaap, I have V2 installed, and have no intention of buying the new lenses. I don't use Auto ISO either. I'm in fact very happy with the performance of the camera, as is. Normally, I upgrade all cameras immediately after a FW is released. Not this time, because I was feeling that I already had the ultimate performance from this camera. So I'm hesitant to reverse anything from this performance level. Do you think that there may be some unannounced improvements in the new file, that you may still recommend an upgrade? Seyhun Yes
mhoersch Posted December 4, 2008 Share #36 Posted December 4, 2008 Seyhun, if you don't need what 2.02 delivers don't upgrade. There is always the risk that new bugs are introduced with a new firmware release. It is known to have happened even with Leica firmware...
footnoteblog Posted December 4, 2008 Share #37 Posted December 4, 2008 My philosophy is that if the upgrade features have image quality increases (better low light handling, better cyan shift control, etc.), then I would think it's a good opportunity, but it doesn't seem like this would meet that criteria. carylwithay Posted December 4, 2008 Share #38 Posted December 4, 2008 I use a Mac and for some reason i cannot open the update file. I have tried everything from stuffit to downloading a PC program to open with crossover but it still will not open right. Any suggestions Caryl
peterv Posted December 4, 2008 Share #39 Posted December 4, 2008 No need to unzip the file, Safari does this automatically. No need to open the file on your Mac. Just tranfer the file to a card and follow the instructions on the Leica download site.
carylwithay Posted December 4, 2008 Share #40 Posted December 4, 2008 usually when i upgrade firmeware I get something that opens and gives me 2 icons as shown on Leica. Now I get this: I do not want to mess up my card or camera. Caryl Welcome, dear visitor!
