Just curious--why did Swedish Radio need multiple M5s?

It's a great, solid camera, of course--but in the US at least, radio doesn't transmit pictures.

Probably, as in Italy, the national "radio" company is indeed "radio-tv"... and anyway they employ journalists, who by definition are people using cameras (even if, often, not deserving a Leica... ;) )

In Sweden "Swedish Radio" was Radio and TV until 1979 when they split the companies.

Hej,

I have owned exactly the same type of camera: Swedish Radio engraving and with the extra protruding part. So, I guess SR did that with all their M5 cameras. It did not look too DIY so either Leitz made it for them or someone else who knew what he was doing did it.

Great! sounds like a cool M5 i've got then, with some heritage. Salesperson confirmed the "Swedish Radio" engraving.

I am all eager to investigate it. Thankyou everybody!

Serious public radios in Europe (of course in USA you don`t know anything comparable ;) )

have/had their "own" program journals (Radiotimes (BBC) is a wellknown example ; but even DLF has its own journal ;) ) and there are a lot of pictures inside.

Congratulations on your M5. I like the camera very much, had 5 bodies, of which one each went to my daughter and my son, with several of my duplicate lenses each.

I use the M5 because it is the only film Leica where I can see the time in the viewfinder AND can judge the exposure (under-correct-over) by referring to the way the lines cross each other. The M6/M7 show correct exposure, under and over by a dot or triangles pointing one way or the other, but it is harder to tell HOW MUCH in either direction the exposure is.

The light meter is not as sensitive as the silicon types in the newer Leicas, but it was and is accurate enough for me with slide films from ISO 25 on upwards and gave me excellent exposure information in all sorts of difficult lighting. You should be aware, however, that when going from a very dark environment to bright light, or vice versa, you should wait a little until the meter cell adapts itself.

Best,

Teddy
