I just bought myself a cheap M5. I Always wanted to try one. I felt it where a big hole in my "collection" :)

Could you please have a look on this one:

Leica M5 på Tradera. Leica | Systemkameror | Analoga kameror | Foto,

This is the one i just bought at the Swedish Ebay.

Have a look at the "lump" under the cameratrigger. I managed to find 30 - 40 pictures of M5, but all without that lump. Where there any variations of the M5?

And does'nt it look like black paint?

"lump" is maybe not a good word. Protruding part under the trigger is maybe better?

A REPAIR? The protruding region seems to be slightly darker.

Dennersten... there is something else... in one of the three views you can see clearly that there is an ENGRAVING on the back, under the cocking lever, with a number that seems unrelated to the s/n of the body. Couldn't read the letters, but this can explain the modification too... it seems to be made to avoid thet "something" interferes with the time setting knob...

The M5's shutter speed dial protrudes over the front edge of the camera, so that it can be easily adjusted with one's forefinger. Now - since it can be easily adjsuted, it can also be accidentally moved. Not that it happened to me when I owned an M5 but, it is possible.

I am certain that the protrusion on your M5 is a glued-on piece to make it more difficult to move the shutter speed dial accidentally. Definitely not a factory modification......

Best,

Jan (another one)

I thought that maybe the description could include some info... my knowledge of Swedish is 0,001%... so obtained a very funny automatic Italian translation... :p hope that someone can appreciate its intrinsic nonsense... :p

Hej,

I have owned exactly the same type of camera: Swedish Radio engraving and with the extra protruding part. So, I guess SR did that with all their M5 cameras. It did not look too DIY so either Leitz made it for them or someone else who knew what he was doing did it.
