caparobertsan Posted November 21, 2008 Author Share #21 Posted November 21, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could anyone who thinks they have a recent new sensor check for the half frame green streak problem, the streak caused by bright light sources just outside or on the edge of the frame. The position of the light source is very critical and it's not always easy to get the sensor to show the problem. I've had a few stage photographs ruined by this and I'm interested to know if Kodak have managed to fix it. Bob. Yes That is a good idea. But I can SEE IR/UV cut filter infront of CCD clearly now. Its Green! Before it was more like brown/gray/dark colour. But I hope this would not affect shrapness of picture and affect using IR filter. I loved old sensor. You are one of a handful people who have received the new sensor being secretly test marketed by Leica. You will notice the new sensor performs flawlessly at ISO 2500, has perfect color balance, and you don't need the filters any more. It is also self-cleaning and will produce outstanding blow-ups of 120 x 160 inches. The only catch is that you weren't supposed to tell anyone. Now that you have leaked it, you will need to send your camera back to Leica to have the original sensor put back in. Yes please I love original CCD. It was sharp! But now It look bit dull. The sensor on my M8 is green, and that camera's almost two years old. Honestly, if Leica had managed to solve the IR issue do you not think they might have mentioned it? Caparobertsan, my sensor was green and after a swap three weeks ago is still green. I had a look just now - especially for you - at the sensor: green. Took a picture without filter of some very black, very synthetic material, wow: purple. With filter: OK, black. Are you sure you took your filter off the lens when you made your test picture? And then, on another note, why do you ask us, when we cannot have a look at your sensor with you? delander † Posted November 21, 2008 Share #30 Posted November 21, 2008 Well I have a new sensor back from Germany and visually it looks identical to the one in my other camera. Same shinyness, same colour, same bits around the edges and looks the same size so no secret upgrade to FF either. I could not get either camera to give me the green horizontal streak from a light source on a vertical edge. I noticed that when the camera applies its lens correction, (you see that happen on the LCD a couple of seconds after the initial display) the edges displayed shrink slightly, so the light source, if carefully positioned on the very edge, disappears. Btw, am I the only one who'd be really, really, really, REALLY annoyed if I'd sent my M8 to Leica to have it's rangefinder adjusted and it took 3 months? That unit was replaced by Leica NJ and the sensor on the replacement looks more blueish. My original black M8 had what looked like the same blueish color sensor as the chrome.. The original black M8 was replaced in September of this year and it had the same blueish sensor but also had a line in the image at all ISO's, aothough not to noticeable at 320 and 160. The sensor was replaced on the replacement black M8 and that sensor looks green like my original chrome M8. I think it is all dependant on the light you are in and how that light hits the sensor. The color you see is a combination of the weak IR filter glass and apparent oxide color due to interference of reflections from the oxide surfaces.
