caparobertsan Posted November 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone! My M8 has finally returned from Germany after 3 month wait!!!!!. I am ok with it. WoW I have not heard M8 shutter for 3 month but it sounds quiet. I feel CCD look different. It look green. I thought It was more darker Green colour B4. Maybe my imagination? And I took picture of black nylon jacket and result is perfect. No magenta cast. ANd FW ver 2.00 I did not want it but they installed. It seems number are continuing as B4. Lens I sent with it was covered with oil and finger print at rear element surface. They put extra body cap! MMMM I remember When I sent Contax G2 for service years ago it was returned to me without any finger print or oil mark or anything extra in the camera. Standard is definitely lower than JAP maker. Sorry.... BUT I love German camera! DO you think they extend my warranty 3 month more???

What did your camera go in for? 2. Are you saying that you took the black jacket photos with or without UV/IR filter? 3. Under what lighting conditions? 4. Had you photographed the same jacket before the camera went for service? If so did it show a magenta cast in the past? Just want to be clear. stunsworth Posted November 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2008 Bill, of course the camera still requires filters. If they'd changed the sensor and filters were no longer required, there would have been people with new cameras complaining that Leica had ripped them off by giving them 2 free filters. seemeng Posted November 20, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2008 Btw, is there a new sensor? Don't remember reading about it. The 8.2 should have the same sensor as the 8 unless Leica's not telling.
vanhulsenbeek Posted November 20, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, of course the camera still requires filters. . Mine does, after an exchange of sensor because of a darn blue line. About quality standards: my M8's continuous frame counting ( not the EXIF counts; they are fine) was set at L999.9002 Fortunately I discovered this immediately and set it straight with a F32 FAT and a number L200.0000. Imagine going on a long fotoshoot or vacation - no laptop at hand - and then running against L999.9999
jaapv Posted November 20, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 20, 2008 What happens then, Sander, when it reaches the million? Does it not simply revert to L001.0001 ?
dpattinson Posted November 20, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 20, 2008 What happens then, Sander, when it reaches the million? Does it not simply revert to L001.0001 ? Heh... anyone brave enough to test? I'd hope you're correct, but exceeding maxint does some interesting things to some software
vanhulsenbeek Posted November 20, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2008 What happens then, Sander, when it reaches the million? Does it not simply revert to L001.0001 ? I would think, and possible read somewhere, that at least a "customer-reset" per FAT32 or FAT formatted SD card with a L001.0001number is necessary - similar as I did and a PC is indispensable. I also remember reading that when the camera really reaches a million minus 1 in the internal actuation count, it must return to the cradle in Solms. jaapv Posted November 20, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2008 A good thing you saw it then . I am a bit surprised, it cannot be difficult to program an automatic number reset into firmware.
Shootist Posted November 20, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 20, 2008 What happens then, Sander, when it reaches the million? Does it not simply revert to L001.0001 ? At that point you have to reset the camera, IE Reset in the menu, and then it will start to record images back at the L1000001 mark. When someone get to 1 million images please post to this forum. I might still be alive
Ariston Posted November 20, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 20, 2008 My M8 recently returned from Solms after an upgrade with a replacement sensor (darned blue line problem). Apart from the new one being oil splattered and requiring some heavy duty cleans, I was impressed with how quickly and how, without any discussion, Leica replaced the sensor. It did however make me wonder whether there is a new sensor design from Kodak after so many of the older ones had been shown to develop the same fault. Tim B Posted November 20, 2008 Share #14 Posted November 20, 2008 According to repair tracking my M8 is in transit on its way home after repair. It foolishly took an unscheduled trip a couple of feet onto stone ground and got a bit bent! Interestingly, the intitial repair schedule did not include the sensor, but when I contacted Solms last week to find out how much longer the repair would take I was told that there had been a delay due to Leica running out of stock of sensors. Presumably therefore, my camera is receiving a new sensor. It will be interesting to see how it all works when I get it back. Perhaps there is a policy of swapping out sensors on 18 month old M8s when they get the chance. But what does this mean, I wonder, for those sensors in cameras that don't need unscheduled repair or servicing? Tim
gravastar Posted November 20, 2008 Share #15 Posted November 20, 2008 Could anyone who thinks they have a recent new sensor check for the half frame green streak problem, the streak caused by bright light sources just outside or on the edge of the frame. The position of the light source is very critical and it's not always easy to get the sensor to show the problem. I've had a few stage photographs ruined by this and I'm interested to know if Kodak have managed to fix it. Bob.

Shootist Posted November 20, 2008 Share #17 Posted November 20, 2008 That does not matter; the question is: will the camera still be alive?:p Oh I see, you don't care if I live or die before anyone get to 1 Million shutter actuations. I thought you cared. I Feel hurt. Yeah right. Hopefully there will still be living M8's.

fotografr Posted November 20, 2008 Share #19 Posted November 20, 2008 I feel CCD look different. It look green. I thought It was more darker Green colour B4. Maybe my imagination? And I took picture of black nylon jacket and result is perfect. No magenta cast. Congratulations! You are one of a handful people who have received the new sensor being secretly test marketed by Leica. You will notice the new sensor performs flawlessly at ISO 2500, has perfect color balance, and you don't need the filters any more. It is also self-cleaning and will produce outstanding blow-ups of 120 x 160 inches. The only catch is that you weren't supposed to tell anyone. Now that you have leaked it, you will need to send your camera back to Leica to have the original sensor put back in.
caparobertsan Posted November 21, 2008 Author Share #20 Posted November 21, 2008 So... 1. What did your camera go in for? 2. If so did it show a magenta cast in the past? Just want to be clear. Regards, Bill I sent my camera for R/F adjustment only but they have replaced main PCB and CCD sensor. Of course R/F was adjusted. No IR/UV was used to take photo of that jacket. Indoor with sky light. Yes It was purple jacket instead of Black.
