mobeyone Posted November 19, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does your D2 whine when on? just thought I would ask as mine does have a high pitched whine to it when on, and when you turn off and you can hear some clicking before the whine goes? is this normal? Â thanks

mobeyone Posted November 19, 2008 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 19, 2008 lol! but seriously, something to worry about?
bill Posted November 19, 2008 Share #4  Posted November 19, 2008 The clicking is certainly normal.  The whine is usually only heard in close proximity to the M8 sub-forum  Regards,  Bill
calshot Posted November 19, 2008 Share #5 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Would'nt worry. My LC1 has a rusty sound when you move the body about. I think its the motors moving the apperture blades or something, adjusting to the changing light level. Whatever it is, it all works fine. Rob
jaapv Posted November 19, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted November 19, 2008 LOL! I'll give you a serious answer All sensor cameras can give out a very soft high-pitched whine. Not everybody is keen enough of hearing to notice it. So yes - it is normal.
John Thawley Posted November 19, 2008 Share #7 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's also an age thing. Â Younger listeners always crank up the bass because they have higher sensitivity to upper frequencies. As you get older you're not as sensitive to higher pitched sounds. Ruhayat Posted November 19, 2008 Share #8 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Yup, mine whines, but it's audible only when I have the camera to my eye in a quiet room.
chouhsin Posted November 19, 2008 Share #9 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Mine does. Both whining and clicking. I am glad that I am still young enough to hear those noises. Â best, Hsin

elansprint72 Posted November 19, 2008 Share #11 Â Posted November 19, 2008 Serious answer: (a first for me?), depending on what your settings are this could be either/both autofocus and/or metering doing their stuff. I'm assuming that it is a VERY quiet whine, unlike that from the M8 forum, as previously suggested. Â To find out which, switch to manual focus..... etc.
brucek Posted November 19, 2008 Share #12 Â Posted November 19, 2008 I think the whine is due to some internal power supply circuitry, and may be related to the LCD display. It may be that if you turn off the LCD and use the internal viewfinder display the whine will go away.
elansprint72 Posted November 19, 2008 Share #13 Â Posted November 19, 2008 I refer you to my previous answer- try it.
John Thawley Posted November 19, 2008 Share #14 Â Posted November 19, 2008 I refer you to my previous answer- try it. Â Nope.. it whines whether in auto focus, LCD view, aperture preferred or shutter preferred... or full manual. It whines... BUT.... I have to have my ear up to it. And THAT makes it difficult to manually focus. At least for me.
Overgaard Posted November 19, 2008 Share #15  Posted November 19, 2008 The clicking is certainly normal. The whine is usually only heard in close proximity to the M8 sub-forum  Regards,  Bill  Usually Canon 5D users flocking over from the Canon forum to inform M8-users how unhappy they would have been if they had an M8 them self ;-)   SERIOUSLY: I never paid attention to it and have my D2 on all the time. But now you mention it, I can hear it when having my ear to the screen. I'm quite sure it's around the sensor/screen area.  I know many D2-users sleep with their D2, and so do I of course, but as I keep it under the pillow, I don't hear the whining that much. elansprint72 Posted November 20, 2008 Share #17 Â Posted November 20, 2008 What's all this ear to the screen stuff- are you confusing the D2 with a phone-camera?
