bill Posted September 11, 2009 Share #101 Posted September 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Venice or San Francisco get my vote, as does a night challenge. Excellent suggestion! Regards, Bill
Advertisement Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Hi bill, Take a look here Malta - The One Challenge Europe 2009, October 17th. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted September 11, 2009 Share #102 Posted September 11, 2009 I can't be there this year chaps, but Venice would get my vote for next - if we agreed to meet in a cafe on St Mark's square I don't think there'd be too many people offering to buy the first round of drinks <grin>. Perhaps we could think about having two challenges, the usual daytime one, and then a quick 1 hour night time one before the meal? I've emailed Leica UK asking if they want to provide a souvenir for everyone, and a prize for the winner. I haven't had a response yet, I think they may be busy at the moment. earleygallery Posted September 11, 2009 Share #104 Posted September 11, 2009 Steve, Erl, Ravi, sorry to hear you guys can't make it. My flights booked but I have had a mishap and hurt my back rather badly, added to my other pressures......I'm hoping I can still make it over next month. Night challenge, love it I'd be up for Melbourne, my sister lives nearby so I could combine a long overdue visit to her with a challenge, but I'm not sure how many other regulars could make such a trip. StS Posted September 11, 2009 Share #105 Posted September 11, 2009 A double-challenge in Venice sounds absolutely brilliant. Choosing October should also reduce the tourist-density to an acceptable level. Venice is the place for a night challenge. There are assassins lurking in every corner at night, but I'm confident we can outlurk them. Stefan
erl Posted September 11, 2009 Share #106 Posted September 11, 2009 Last time I tried photographing "Assassins" at night, I got arrested, in Morocco, and had my film 'dissapeared' by the undercover guys. Next time I will have a workable plan. Venice, stay awake. Your'e on candid camera. Now, gotta go and pick up my M9 so I can practice for Venice. StS Posted September 12, 2009 Share #107 Posted September 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I guess the approved technique is to hide one's camera under one's cloak. In Venice, assassins have their own alley, seemingly. I guess this made the craft somewhat respectable.... Stefan Welcome, dear visitor! richam Posted September 12, 2009 Share #108 Posted September 12, 2009 Sorry that some I had hoped would join in were unable to do so. Best wishes and hope to meet you all some time or another. As for 2010, Venice sounds neat, but I would toss Istanbul and St. Petersburg into the selection hat.
spylaw4 Posted September 12, 2009 Share #109 Posted September 12, 2009 Sorry but long haul is out for me - budget won't stretch to it. Venice would be nice and i like the idea of a double challenge 2 hours x day; 1 hour x night.
andybarton Posted September 12, 2009 Share #110 Posted September 12, 2009 I wasn't serious about Hong Kong or San Francisco. Neither of them are in Europe, for a start Venice is a good one for me. St Petersburg could be a bit chilly, and I haven't ever considered going to Istanbul. I do fancy Scandinavia, though. Copenhagen/Oslo/Stockholm maybe? erl Posted September 12, 2009 Share #111 Posted September 12, 2009 After 4 or 5 visits over the years to Istanbul and Turkey in general you can assume I am very impressed with it. Regrettably, over the years I have seen Istanbul deteriorate but I guess that is true of many culturally beautiful places. Wherever, I would urge the inclusion of a night shoot perhaps as an addition rather that instead of the day shoot competition. They could be combined or two separate events for judging. Just a thought for the decision maker(s) to consider.
spylaw4 Posted September 13, 2009 Share #112 Posted September 13, 2009 I wasn't serious about Hong Kong or San Francisco. Neither of them are in Europe, for a start Venice is a good one for me. St Petersburg could be a bit chilly, and I haven't ever considered going to Istanbul. I do fancy Scandinavia, though. Copenhagen/Oslo/Stockholm maybe? I think I suggested Copenhagen last year. It is, like all the Scandanavian cities, expensive tho'. Barcelona was a close runner-up for this year IIRC.
erl Posted September 13, 2009 Share #113 Posted September 13, 2009 Brian, I agree about Copenhagen and Scandanavia in general. Expensive, but nice. Yes, Barcelona was high on the list last year and is a fantastic locale. I think what will swing a final decision will be how of us have been to "where" and will enjoy a return. Early days yet, but those of you traveling this year will need something to discuss besides gossiping about we "stay at home" types.
andybarton Posted September 14, 2009 Share #114 Posted September 14, 2009 Let's not get ahead of ourselves, guys. We have this year's Challenge to look forwards to first I propose that we do the "short list for next year" vote again, while in Malta.

Dubai isn't in Europe either but I believe it's included in the European Golf Open/Championship, or whatever it's called ..... not into golf. Venice does sound good. ________________ Cheers, Tom Photography by Tom Lane

cbretteville Posted September 19, 2009 Author Share #120 Posted September 19, 2009 I'll get the practical info done and posted during the week end or on Monday. Looks like a good turnout this year even thoughbsome of the regulars can't make it. I, for one, is really looking forward to it. Double challenge, now that is an interesting idea. We (or Bill) would have to come up with an amendment to the rules unless we just want to make it simple and run it as two separate challenges.
