marknorton Posted October 9, 2006 Share #21 Posted October 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't be, it's more than fine. I found the M8 viewfinder to be very easy to use.
Advertisement Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Hi marknorton, Take a look here Who's going to by a M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sinwen Posted October 9, 2006 Share #22 Posted October 9, 2006 I voted NO for the simple reason that electronic is worth peanuts and I find all these digital cameras to be outrageously expensive for what they are. Even for Leica electronic is just electronic, it will be obsolete very soon but worth will be out of order in a very short time. Dump in 4000€+ is pure madness to me, I can understand someone want to play with a point & shoot for few hundred € or you are a pro who defenitely benefit from digital which pay for itself within a couple of years then switch to the next model. This is not my case and I will probably never buy a high end digital over a 1000€.
topoxforddoc Posted October 9, 2006 Share #23 Posted October 9, 2006 Don't know yet. I do love my DMR. I also like my M6TTL and the TA rapidwinder-not so happy about the crop on a RF, when shooting with wider angle lenses is the norm. I'm less worried about the crop in the DMR as I use long lenses to shoot wildlife and sport. Charlie
sean_reid Posted October 9, 2006 Share #24 Posted October 9, 2006 I'm tempted but need to handle one first because I'm worried about the .68x viewfinder. Have you used a Leica with a .72 finder? The M8 is much the same. Cheers, Sean
sdai Posted October 10, 2006 Share #25 Posted October 10, 2006 I've ordered one but I agree with LCT on the 0.68x magnification factor ... I'm not into wide angle photography at all and have never interested in anything wider than 35mm - so I definitely hope Leica would offer an a-la-carte selection of 0.85x or even 1x magnification viewfinders. Before that, I'll probably use my MP 0.85 more often than with its digital sibling.

Before that, I'll probably use my MP 0.85 more often than with its digital sibling. I understand but don't forget that this .68 finder goes only a little wider than 35, to a 32 mm EFOV. The next step up in mag would be to cover a 28 at widest which would mean the widest EFOV seen in the finder would be only 37 mm. That said, I've suggested to Leica there is a future market for M8s with alternate finder mags, such as .85. Until then, I think many who want the higher mag will go with the 1.25 magnifier. I'm used to the 1:1 R-D1 (recently) but I was quite happy with the M8 finder. Maybe it will end up being an M8 a la carte option. wparsonsgisnet Posted October 10, 2006 Share #27 Posted October 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was in touch with my dealer yesterday and he said early November and to bring my wallet (just kidding about the last part -- I've been dealing iwth these guys for 25 years and they didn't even require a deposit). Like mark, I purchased a new lens, in my case the 24mm asph. I use 2 M's, both with .72 finders, so the .68 should feel about the same to me. I have found, however, that Leica RF's grow into you as you use them. I don't expect to notice a difference by the time I've used the M8 a while. If you can't sense Sean's excitement, let me say that it appears to me that he is chamfing at the bit to get the image part (part II) of his M8 review online. IF YOU ARE NOT A SUBSCRIBER to ReadReviews, not only are you missing something, but you will also miss one of the first sets of images from the M8 that will appear. I can ASSURE you that the text that accompanies the images will be of the highest order. Gimme the camera! Regards to all,
albertwang Posted October 10, 2006 Share #28 Posted October 10, 2006 This is a maybe. I definitely would get it over any of the heavy SLR but I need macro capability. The M doesn't work too well with that.
marknorton Posted October 10, 2006 Share #29 Posted October 10, 2006 Albert, I asked the question abut the 90mm lens and the macro adapter which takes you down to 3:1 which isn't bad; it's true though that macro is not the M8's natural hunting ground. Not a reason to write off the whole camera I think.
humanized_form Posted October 10, 2006 Share #30 Posted October 10, 2006 i'm already pre-ordered. i have never been so excited about a digital camera and have been following everything involving the M8 for what seems like forever. that said i have been trying to figure out how i would use the M8 along with my analog cameras. i love my M7 and shooting color slides. i really do. i have confidence that the exposures from the M7 will be great right out of the camera (as long i didn't mess them up!). after using the M7 for about a year or so the immediate result and convenience of digital really isn't such a big deal to me anymore, i have gotten used to the delayed gratification of waiting for the slides(and have even started shooting Kodachrome, which requires sending it away for processing). my digital cameras are hardly seeing any use (besides taking images for ebay etc) as they all seem to involve compromises and workarounds which annoy me after using the M7. so... strangely enough i find that i seem to be talking myself out of buying the only digital camera i have ever really wanted. i don't quite understand why. i have the money set aside for the M8, so that isn't an issue. i just don't have the overwhelming desire to use the M8 like i thought i would. maybe i will feel different after holding the camera and using it. woodda Posted October 10, 2006 Share #34 Posted October 10, 2006 I haev had Lecia for 20 years now and am not sre. I Have had great fun with autofocus SLR digital and the new M8 will have to produce much digital better than say D2Xs, 5D and 1DSMK2 to win me over.
