I've updated a few of my Leica pages, plus a new about the coming RED dSLR system. There's videos, pictures and great rumors (my favorite is the R10 having internal AF - I just love that idea).

Anyway, have a go at it and please let me know of new stuff you learn or hear about.

Hello to DK from NY-

Thanks for posting the links. I have been wondering about the R 10 for some time. It's good to finally see some "from the horse's month news."

Although I sold off some R stuff a few years ago, I've held onto my favorite lenses and an R4SP body (to use in the meantime) for the R10.

In the meantime, I'll use my M-6's and R (should I need the macro or zoom) and 8 or E-1 for digital.

Good Weekend,

Hello,

internal autofocus in the camera won't work with any R lense since 1974! There are a lot of lenses with internal focus (R2,8/19, R2,8/100, most tele lenses). With this lenses a change of the distance between lense and sensor won't focus correctly! Or do you expect any other mechanism?

The internal focus is just a rumour this feature won't be part of R10, in my opinion it makes no sense!

Kind regards,

Bernd.

Leica-employees told me that the R10 will get a new bayonet for new AF-lenses but will be backwards compatible to old lenses.

Internal focus remains a myth, because it makes the camera heavy and big while causing problems with newer lens designs (internal focus, floating elements...).

In the "Informer" section of Amateur Photograph magazine's 10/18/2008 issue, it states " Leica Camera product manager Maike Harberts told AP that the R10 will be the company's next ' high priority'. Indications are that the R10 will be AF-enabled, so it would be compatible with any future AF lenses as well as existing R lenses." Yay!!!!

I would love to invest in Leica for my work tools. I would do anything to get out of the megapixel / model o' the month rat race of Canon and Nikon. I currently shoot with 3 40D bodies because I refuse to pay $5K plus for a two-year model turn over of the 1D series. It's absurd. These are supposed to be professional tools.

I use all "L" series lenses and never balk at the cost. I know they'll serve me for years. But the bodies? It's absolutely ridiculous and insulting.

Unfortunately, auto focus and speed is a must in my line of work. But it's a shame that that has to come with built-in obsolescence.

Now, I haven't tried S2 my self yet. I tried a Hasselblad again few days ago, and was amazed how big a clunk the mirror made. All the other times I've used a H3D has been outdoor where it wasn't that obvious.

I guess the S2 will have to have a huge mirror as well, and that it will feel like a huge mirror moving no matter what. More silent, probably, but still a huge mirror.

But I really hope the R10 will be an "S2 with focus on extra speed" on both buffer, AF and series of shots.
