rollsman4 Posted October 5, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 5, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I no longer shoot Professional wedings. Now its my hobby and family photographer. I am looking to buy a Nice Digital camera . I am not concerned about the camera size, processing speed-Just Awesome Quality Pictures ( which I have been used to as a Pro). I have used Leicas Film cameras in the past as second cameras and love the quality and Vibrant colors they offer. I have seen the Reviews on the V-Lux 1 and they seem to be very good. I am willing to spend up to $1400. USD Any ideas ? Greatly appreciated.Dennis

albertwang Posted October 5, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 5, 2006 I like the idea of the V-lux 1... good for everywhere even macros! Of course I prefer an M for sneakiness but the V-lux 1 looks more innocent here.
tommycrown Posted October 5, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 5, 2006 Dennis, I see you are interested in Vlux 1 just like me! What purpose do you plan to use your camera of? I am thinking Street photography, but I can't afford M8 now, so I was thinking Vlux 1 as well. Though a lot of D2 users suggested me D2, but I still feel little fishy about 5M compared to 10M. Of course, pixels don't really matter a lot in Leica, but still with the telephoto and the macro features are attractive. If you are willing to spend 1400USD, D2 is about between 1100USD and 1400USD in Ebay! But, if you are staying firm in Vlux 1, 1400USD will get you the camera + case + UV + extra wide angle + telephoto possibly!!! Good luck, Oh, and are you willing to post some photos when you get the camera? Thanks in advance!
earleygallery Posted October 5, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 5, 2006 I don't think this camera is on sale just yet. AP magazine in the UK tested the Panasonic version this week and gave it 80% overall which is pretty average. They mentioned problems with noise/soft images and the in camera processing. Leica versions usually turn in better results due to different firmware so it remains to be seen what an actual test of the Leica camera says (rather than pre production product news). If these changes bumped the rating up to 85/90% then its well worth considering. Ideally you want to try one out yourself and make some test prints. rjans Posted October 5, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 5, 2006 I read 2 test reports in German photo magazines of the Panasonic FZ50. Color Foto found it to be an interesting buy. In Foto Magazin it was compared to some other super- zooms and it got the most stars. Best
j_w_davies Posted October 5, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 5, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) AP also disliked the slow reacting auto focus. I think it promises more than it delivers.
tommycrown Posted October 5, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 5, 2006 My family uses Nikon/Canon long zoom SLR like cameras alot. And their complaint was the slow response for focus when zoomed in as well. Is this normal/common for any long range zoom cameras? Sorry to ask TOO many questions about the camera that's not even out yet.
rollsman4 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted October 5, 2006 I plan on using the camera for street and family photos but I want The quality to be excellent. I have no need to use anything higher the ISO 400. I know it should be available end of OCT. I am trying to compare this V-Lux to the New Nikon D80. Help !! stunsworth Posted October 6, 2006 Share #15 Posted October 6, 2006 And AP knows anything about focusing eh? The evidence would appear to suggest that they know at least as much as you do on the subject.

tommycrown Posted October 6, 2006 Share #18 Posted October 6, 2006 rollsman4, Like many of us, you may want to get your hands on cameras and try them out before you purchase them. I strongly suggest Bestbuy or some local camera shops to touch, feel, lift, and try both of them at the same time, then maybe you can tell which is more suited to you. Though D80 is only available at this moment in Bestbuy, I tried some shots there. But, I think I am going wait and see how Vlux 1 turns out. Maybe people like us will buy the cameras first to compare before we have to do the same for ourselves! IMHO, Vlux 1 has a better advantage with its lens compared to the D80's bundled lens (and I am not just talking about the zoom range), but the Leica Quality!!! If you read the extensive review on both cameras from Dpreview.com, you will understand that Vlux 1 noise level is pretty low under ISO 400. Good luck on your next purchase! ------------ Aren't we are all semi or even whole Leica oriented species?
Riley Posted October 6, 2006 Share #19 Posted October 6, 2006 Id urge anyone to be wary of V-Lux-1 if its anything like FZ50 it will disappoint you wait and see the samples Riley
bradreiman Posted October 6, 2006 Share #20 Posted October 6, 2006 i think i saw some sample images on leica's web site and couldn't believe how noisy and generally poor quality they were.
