GreyCoupe Posted October 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) So two years after the Photokina many of us hoped we'd learn about the new digital R [06], we have a minor mention, and nothing else? Good grief! Surely Leica could do us the favor of indicating more about R timing...

Shootist Posted November 6, 2008 Share #7 Posted November 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Buy Canon, Have the AA filter removed, Buy a adapter with focusing conformation from Canon mount to Leica R lens mount, Use Leica R lenses. No need to wait for Leica R10.
miami91 Posted November 6, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 6, 2008 Hey Rob can you figure out what FUBAR means??? I wasn't familiar with this acronym till seeing Ken Burns' (excellent) WWII documentary. I think this is more of a generational one... Jeff.
mjh Posted November 6, 2008 Share #9 Posted November 6, 2008 Surely Leica could do us the favor of indicating more about R timing... First the S2 (in 2009), then the R10, maybe in 2010. I suppose Leica doesn’t want to make any promises they might not be able to keep, so that’s why there is no fixed release date. Prior to photokina, the R system was pronounced dead by many; now we know that it has a future, that there will be a backwards compatible R10 using some of the technology developed for the S2, that it will have AF, probably a 36 x 24 mm sensor, and a new line of AF lenses. But if you need a DSLR now or within the next couple of months, the R10 is not for you.

For those of us excited about the R10 and autofocus lenses, 2010 allows just a bit more time to save up the funds necessary for such an endeavor. This is bound to be one expensive piece of kit (I'm hoping for a body price no more expensive than an M8.2, and lens prices consistent with the old R lenses). Jeff. sdai Posted November 6, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 6, 2008 With current economic conditions, Dr. Kaufmann could feel much less pressure (from potential customers) on the R10. By the time Mr. Obama finishes his term, then we start to talk.
miami91 Posted November 6, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 6, 2008 By the time Mr. Obama finishes his term, then we start to talk. I assume you mean his first term Simon, not his second term. I don't want to wait to 2017 for an R10.

miami91 Posted November 7, 2008 Share #17 Posted November 7, 2008 Where have we learned that? There have been several interviews with Maike Harberts and with Andreas Kauffman during and since photokina where this has been mentioned. No hard/fast timelines, but clear commitment to an R10 and clear mention of trickle down technologies from the S2. Here's a link to one of the interviews I've seen, this one from photokina with Swedish television. You can find more if you're motivated and willing to do some googling...Interview with Maike Harberts of Leica Camera AG about the new Leica S2 and the upcoming Leica R10 | Leica Rumors Best, Jeff.
