Gerhardt Isringhaus Posted October 10, 2008 Share #41 Posted October 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) After we run the Beer thing to ground, let's do what constitutes a world class Avatar. Gerhardt and Pete definitely have attained that distinction for very different reasons. Before I joined this forum I had noticed the tiny graphic my daughter used to express her mood when signing her blogs, she has dozens of different types, but I didn't even know they were called Avatars. The evaluation categories will be: Technical Elegance Crafted by Elves - Pete gets highest marks, Audacious and Arrogant Jumps Off the Page - Gary also rates a 5, Graphically Superb - Michael, Tells Volumes About Yourself - Nealf, Whimsy - Pierre, and Stick-it-in-your-eye tongue-in-cheek - Frans and I will get at least a 4 in that category. Tim Tim, thanks for the 5. At least I'm not an arrogant bastard full of whimsy with his tongue in his cheek.
Advertisement Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hi Gerhardt Isringhaus, Take a look here Barnack's Monthly; Beer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tdavis2 Posted October 11, 2008 Share #42 Posted October 11, 2008 Your avatar reminds me of driver "bugs-in-teeth" about 80 mph in a MG TC.
Gerhardt Isringhaus Posted October 11, 2008 Share #43 Posted October 11, 2008 Never did that, but I was attacked by Apache cops doing 130 MPH outside Gallup, NM driving an Alpha Romeo Spyder coming back from an Ernst Haas workshop in Aspen, Co, back in the day. Ah, memories!

tdavis Posted October 12, 2008 Share #45 Posted October 12, 2008 Labatt Lite? Good shot but for the beer, Carolina, you can do better than that. Gary, my picked-up-by-the-Gestapo story involved an Austin Healey 100-six, likewise at 130 mph. Because this is a German camera forum I'll mention my 1958 Minox was in my pocket, ready to record the action. The year was 1966 . . . ____________________ Tim

farnz Posted October 12, 2008 Share #48 Posted October 12, 2008 Goodness, Tim, (Delbeck) it looks like your Leica's got beer goggles on (or should that be beer goggle?) Is that the Canon 50/0.95? Pete.

Those old Healey's were hell on wheels, no wonder you were picked out by the Gestapo. I hope they didn't take your Minox as evidence. My story took place in 1977. erl Posted October 14, 2008 Share #51 Posted October 14, 2008 rule #1 in the australian outback: if you want to eat (or drink) it, you have to shoot it first. Tim, I feel truly compromized being caught on my knees before a beer. I think this will be hard to live down. Moral: Watch your back and front when Leica shooters abound. Hell, I don,t even know where we were when you shot that.

elansprint72 Posted October 15, 2008 Share #53 Posted October 15, 2008 So folks; it's about half way through the month and I'm pretty pleased with the way things are going with this new venture; however; my idea was to encourage folks who are not regulars in the photo fora to stick their snaps up here. That has happened to a certain extent but (as my school reports frequently said) "some room for improvement", so paste 'em up here guys. Having said that... please "usual suspects" continue to post your stuff too. I don't know what you think about the suggested rule of "only one image per member per month" a bit like the One Challenge, and other formulae? On an administrative note: moderators, is it possible to close the thread at the end of the month but allow the images to be viewed in a monthly archive? My aim was not to create extra work for you guys (btw, thanks for all your unsung/unpaid efforts) I moderate a car forum and know how onerous it can sometimes be. Finally; choice of subject for the next month: I'm happy to chuck up the first word that comes into my head but is there a better way of picking the monthly theme without offending anyone or getting competitive? Note: the subject of "beer" was not chosen by myself, for some strange reason it just cropped up, this being a bar! Opinions please and thanks to those who have already pitched in. Gerhardt Isringhaus Posted October 17, 2008 Share #57 Posted October 17, 2008 Pete - Being a bar, perhaps barflies? I think Stuart's idea is great. No shortage of subject matter, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The constant is they're all buzzing about in Barnack's Bar.
elansprint72 Posted October 23, 2008 Share #58 Posted October 23, 2008 Hmmm.... it's gone very quiet. Is this venture worth carrying on with? It's been suggested to me that it should be shifted from the Bar to "Other" and run as a monthly themed thread. any opinions?
stuny Posted October 24, 2008 Share #59 Posted October 24, 2008 Pete - I suspect we'll get more viewers at Other even though that is the second least viewed photo section. I also suspect that activity has dropped off here both due to the relatively low number of viewers of the Bar and the limitation of one image per month per member. Either way, we might want to either leave a topic live for 2 weeks instead of 4, or allow a second image per member after the first two weeks. elansprint72 Posted October 24, 2008 Share #60 Posted October 24, 2008 Stuart, I now wonder if there needs to be any limit on the number of photo posts? The main thing is to encourage folks who have only posted a few (or less!) images. A monthly theme would be easier to administer, with a cut off and last day of the month and start on the first of the month.
