kcg Posted September 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) At another sight I was reading information regarding the D-Lux 4. It stated that the 24 - 60 lens may be extended using a lens adapter. No other information was given. At Leica's site there is no mention of any type of lens adapter under accessories for the D-Lux 4. Is anyone familiar with an available adapter to extend or widen the lens? It's a Panasonic accessory. The D-Lux 4 is the Leica version of the Lumix LX3. If you go to Panasonic's website, you can see the lens accessories. DMC-LX3 | PRODUCTS | LUMIX | Digital Camera | Panasonic Someone in another thread in this forum maintains that Leica apparently opted out of offering the lens adapters because of what they felt was degradation of image quality. So although they would presumably fit the DL4 body, you may want to exercise caution and/or read up a bit on people's results/experience with the adapters. Jeff. Michael Hiles Posted September 26, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2008 No one seems to have mentioned the accessory viewfinder for the D-Lux 4. Looks to me like a very nice idea - giving a viewfinder to avoid trying to compose on an always-too-small screen at 18 inches from your eye. Anyone know any more about this device? miami91 Posted September 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2008 James, The Leica accessory is listed as a 24mm on the Leica website. I would have to assume it has brightlines only for that focal distance, not others. Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder Of course, one might also elect to buy several CV viewfinders for the same price (approx 300.00 USD) as the official Leica version. They won't be as luxurious, of course (plastic not metal), but any viewfinder that mounts in the hotshoe ought to work. Jeff.
mhoutman Posted September 26, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2008 today i was at the photokina and one of the leice people told me that they are considering additional converters too (but probably to leica specs and it is not official so we have to wait). also a ever-ready case seems in the works in case the additional grip is attached. after all good news. And some are made of metal. Nevertheless, one could buy 2-3 CV viewfinders for the price of the Leica, assuming the Leica finder is indeed in the 310.00 USD range, which is what I've seen it preselling for. Here's a link to Cameraquest, which AFAIK is the only authorized CV dealer in the USA, and a true pleasure to deal with. Voigtlander Bessa RF Accessories Jeff. johnwolf Posted September 26, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2008 I think the OP is asking if he can make his 60mm lens longer. There doesn't seem to be an accessory to do so. John
J Mitchum Posted September 27, 2008 Share #9 Posted September 27, 2008 Does anyone know if the accessory grip for the D-Lux 4 will fit the D-Lux 3 as well? The D-Lux 4 appears to be slightly larger but it looks like the tripod mount is in the same place.

Panasonic doesn't keep their products on the market that long. Better get cracking, Leica. Chop chop.
hypesj Posted April 27, 2009 Share #13 Posted April 27, 2009 Hey all So i bought the 24mm viewfinder, it is truly brilliant looking, very clear. Obviously worthless up close, but then that should be a gimme. It has bright lines to outline a 35mm zoom also. As for the 16:9, you just gotta shootit a few times to judge where the lines are for yourself. When concerning lenses, I found cheap adapters and cheap japanese made lenses on ebay under d-lux 4 search. I bought one of the .45x wideangle lenses, there is definitely mild degredation in the quality as its not a leica lens. However, it is still pretty good, the loss in quality is not so much that its not worth its $20 price. Also, I had heard on some other forums that several old minolta adapters, and nikon adapters will also work on the lux. Furthermore, there is a 2x and 3x lens adapter on ebay which would take your zoom up to 48-120 and 72-180 respectively, hope this all helps, good luck shooting out there!! (p.s. the .45 comes with a macro lens attached which if removed, makes the lens a fisheye, groovy!)
gtravis Posted April 28, 2009 Share #14 Posted April 28, 2009 Leica doesn't offer a lens adaptor but, as many have said here, there are lens adaptors available (including from Panasonic). I use a Lensmate adaptor and it's very handsome (lensmate.com: The Leading Camera Lenses Site on the Net) and reasonably priced. I keep it on my D-LUX 4 pretty much continuously with a cheap Hoya UV filter at the end. I know this is going to degrade image quality. On the other hand, I don't have to worry about having to clean the beautiful Leica lens nearly ever and I'll be damned if I can tell the difference between a picture taken with the lens adaptor and UV filter on, and one with them off. Only big drawback is that the D-LUX 4 now no longer fits in my beautiful (and expensive) Leica leather case.
