I just pickd up a very nice M2 and wondering what Leica in New Jersey charges for a CLA'd or if there are other independent outfits out there that can do this? Is the viewfinder also cleaned with a CLA'd?

Thanks,

Wilfredo

Hi Wilfredo,

I'm surprised none of our Stateside friends have picked this up. I can only speak from personal experience of CLAs on this side of the ditch. I paid £160 earlier this year to have my IID serviced by CRR in Luton. it took a fortnight against an estimate of three weeks. Price varies dependent upon the amount of work to be done and the parts required, obviously. CRR has a detailed and informative website, so I'm giving the link here for you as a "baseline": LEICA - CAMERA REPAIRS & RESTORATION - LUTON , ENGLAND

In the US, the names I am aware of are Youxin Xe, DAG and Sherry Krauter at Golden Touch. I have obviously never used either, but from postings on here and other lesser fora all are good. The only negatives I have heard are poor communications and long delays/underestimates of time with DAG, but I stress I have no personal experience at all. Perhaps a US-based member can give a more useful input for you?

Regards,

Bill

I had an M2 CLA's by Sherry Krauter at Golden Touch - excellent work. I have also had work done by Gerry Smith at Kindermann in Toronto, with outstanding results and quite fast turnaround. You would never be disappointed by Gerry Smith, IMHO.Ths should all cost about $350 (CAD or USD).

I've had two M3s CLA'd (and some minor repair) by Leica in NJ. I was very happy with the final work. It even comes back sealed in a little plastic bag, with "LEICA" printed on it. It ran in the $350 to $425 (with the extra repairs).

However, it takes FOREVER. Like, two to three months. Calling is about the only way to contact them; emailing gets zero response. In other words, customer hand-holding doesn't really seem like a priority.

Check out their website for information on how to ship to them, etc., or call.
