21 & 24 Summilux?

Filter sizes are listed at R G Lewis:

21/1.4: E82

24/1.4: E72

24/3.8: E46

50/0.95: E82

Assuming these sizes are correct, the three big lenses are indeed as huge as they look...

Wouldnt they need to come with a telescope as well for the VF if these sizes would be right? :D

I would not hold by breath. Much too big unless Leica choose to launch a 'cropped' lens for the first time. A 24/2 would be more plausible, almost mandatory given the tradition of Summicrons 35 at Leica's.

LCT, it is September, 15th, and here I am :).

Regards,

Andy

I believe that ,though, these are technological achievements of the highest possible magnitude, it would have been better if they produced an 18mm f2.0 or 1.8. They may have done though !

Nevertheless I am now preparing myself for the 24mmf1.4 with my 24mmf2.8 going for sale or part exhange !

Series filters are either slipped into the front of the lens and locked by a screw-in ring, placed into a special receptacle in the lens mount (usually at the rear) or fitted into the lenshood and locked in by the fitting of the hood onto the lens. Sometimes the lenshood will have a knob to rotate a polfilter (on SLR cameras obviously)

I wish we all were not being used to trial Leica's new economic theory of price elasticity

I was busy trying to dream up justification for that 21 f/1.4 for use on my M6.

What could it do better than the 28 f/2 ?

Aurora photography

Non tracked wide-field star/sky shots

Indoor architecture and spaces

Indoor events

Dinner table shots

In car/plane shots

But even factoring waiting another couple of year for a digital M9, £4,600 is too absurd an amout of money for a single lens and V/F.

So, thank you Leica, for putting temptation so far out of reach, and finding such an effective cure for GAS.

Ffordes in the UK have the lenses on their website. 21/24mm Summiluxes available in December. Orders being taken now. £3990. Noctilux available in February next year, £6290.

Now I realise Christmas will be upon us soon, so can I just say that while I'd prefer the 24mm, I'd settle for a 21mm at a pinch.

If I may i would like to say something in a open fashion here. I know many maybe displeased with these fast wide angle offerings and there prices and such. Many of the newer M8 folks don't realize that back when the M8 came out right here on this forum we made a huge plea for fast wide angles and other things as well. I had meetings with leica as well as others on this very subject alone. I will not take any nor deserve any credit for this but many folks here have been pushing for this for a long time. It's here and that is exactly what we asked for. Now in my book you can't beat that with a stick. We asked they delivered. We have too give them credit for listening to the folks on this forum about the needs we asked for. Yes a little slow but that is Leica also.

As Leica grows there customer base and this forum as well as other forums are important to gather great data. So as new things get announced let's not get upset that it did not fit your individual needs. This is not a custom shop but the next best thing of almost any OEM to that but they bring out product that they think we need and can make money at it. Your help in creating that data will always be a benefit to Leica. This is a simple case, we asked , they listened and apparently going to deliver.

That is all i will say about that but positive conversation will win the day. Always.

Fully agree with you- hope the sales are really healthy and robust once they arrive.

I for one would really like to try to get my hands on a 21mm Summilux RIGHT NOW, for a project in Brazil during mid to late October- Any chance of obtaining one , even if a demonstrator, pre-production, etc after Photokina? They seem really indispensable to me and are what I have been waiting for a long time.

If anyone at Leica can possibly help, please feel free to let me know, either directly or through Mr.Meenken at Meister Camera Berlin.

Good luck to all,

If you want to give LEICA credit for listening buy the two lenses.

LEICA can´t survive on a lot of bla bla bla (talking).

That is what I am trying to do- although I would prefer the 21mm Summilux, if this cannot be obtained, I would also be satisfied with the 24mm. Absolutely ready to put my money on the table right now for the lens!

I would be so happy to get one, that I am willing to take whatever is available, condition-wise, in either the 21mm or the 24mm.

Leica, please help (if at all possible)!

You need to contact them directly. Although they read this forum I think that would be the best approach.

After saying that I think your chances of getting a lens are probably zero. They are not due to be commercially available until January, and I would have thought all the pre-production samples would have been allocated for dealer demos and final field testing.

However, if they do have anything available, it would be extremely useful and handy. Additionally, I would be glad to give them any feedback as well as copies of my photos (which will actually be Kodachromes, hence the urgency)

Speak with Customer Services, or Marketing at Leica in Solms.

There will be some lenses out there being tested by NDA photographers and there will be some at Photokina. However, I bet that all of them are accounted for

However, if you were to get one, as a man in the street, before January, I'd be very surprised.
