stuny Posted September 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) In Mandalay we went to this hilltop temple, Oo Min Thong Se in which a section was formed in a broad arch. Inside Buddha statues lined the outer edge of the arch. You can see other photos from Mandalay on the 3rd and 4th Myanmar photo pages of our site. Advertisement Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Hi stuny, Take a look here In & Out. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted September 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2006 Love the colour and composition of #2 - did you have a polariser on the lens for #1 ?
elansprint72 Posted September 29, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2006 Stu, Good pair, particularly like #2; why are some Bhuddas more favoured than others? Cheers, Pete.
rob_x2004 Posted September 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2006 Stuart, why didnt you take your DMR into this place?
stuny Posted September 30, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 30, 2006 Robert - Thank you. No polarizer. Just unretouched very bright midday shot in which the proper exposure for the building darkened the sky. I hadn't begun to adjust stuff after shooting. I did a quick and dirty adjustment, and posted it below. Your comment prompted me to do it. Pete - Thank you. I was so entranced with catching photos that I failed to ask our guide why. However, much further down there was another favored Buddha with a heavy rock. Young women are supposed to pick up the rock while seated to have a vision of their future husband. Needless to say, I didn' t try it. Rob - Thank you. Didn't have the DMR. On that trip I was traveling with the R8 with film and the D2. These are D2 shots. The DMR will come with us to Papua, along with the FX-01 and its underwater enclosure and flash.

gylee Posted September 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) For some reason I was expecting shots of a burger restaurant. Good catches Stuart.
kld Posted September 30, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 30, 2006 Nice shots, #1 gained a lot after your rework. It is difficult with the D2 to get the right exposure in bright light because the viewfinder does not show the exposure of the later shot then. #2 is perfect and renders very well the mood of the place. -- Klaus
stuny Posted September 30, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted September 30, 2006 Amado & Klaus - Thank you. Gordon - Very funny -- I hadn't thought of that.
fernando_b Posted October 2, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2006 Very great order in second image, I like it. Fernando.
Sandokan Posted October 2, 2006 Share #11 Posted October 2, 2006 I love the buddha shots the best. Difficult to decide between exposing for the sky or the buildings - maybe selective retouching in PS? Very well preserved temple - shame about the political situation in the country. stuny Posted October 2, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted October 2, 2006 Fernando - Thank you. Ravi - Thank you. Unfortunately the country has been run by a military junta for 19 years, much to the benefit of senior military officers, and less so to the people. One of the stories the generals tell the populace is that they must be prepared for George Bush to invade since he wants their rubies. We found the people to be lovely, which has been the case throughout SE Asia.
svenning Posted October 3, 2006 Share #13 Posted October 3, 2006 Dear Stuart & Barbara, The second picture of the Budhas is absolutely fantastic (!) The quality of the pictures which the Digilux-2 camera can produce amazes me again and again - and especially when the photographs are taken by you two persons :-)) Thank you. All the best - Svenning, Denmark.
