Advertisement Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hi Shootist, Take a look here Small 3rd Party M8 Battery Charger. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
guidomo Posted August 28, 2008 Share #22 Posted August 28, 2008 This thing is about half as long as the Leica charger and about 1/4 or less in thickness. It is small. The power supply is 1 5/8" wide by 2 1/4" long by 1 1/2" high. Why Leica didn't opt for something like this to begin with is beyond me. Thanks for this! It's nice to see this is smaller. The thing I hate most about electronics is cables though, so I'll be in the minority of people who prefer the Leica charger to this one. I know it's huge and I hate packing it. gDallasK Posted August 28, 2008 Share #23 Posted August 28, 2008 My thanks for this too. I'm just off to India and need all the help I can get to reduce my pack size! Now let's hope Amazon can deliver quickly. I very nearly spent £75 on a second Leica charger (as back up) when I was in London earlier this week. I'd be kicking myself now if I had! JHAG Posted August 28, 2008 Share #24 Posted August 28, 2008 What do you want from there site? A picture, the manual? Being in Europe, I might buy directly from them.

The photo shows a Euro plug....do you need an adapter? I ordered mine from Adorama and it was $54.95 and it came with a standard USA type wall wart plug. But I'd wait to see if the Delkin unit comes out in the next couple of weeks. I have had some luck and NO Luck charging batteries with the Ansmann. I'm going to give it another try tonight. But I will be buying the Delkin Dual Charger when it becomes available.
rbaron Posted September 1, 2008 Share #27 Posted September 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks. After doing some more looking at other threads here and on RFF I agree and will wait for the Delkin.

Shootist Posted September 1, 2008 Share #30 Posted September 1, 2008 Is the Delkin a for sure thing or hopeful supposition? As far as Delkin's response to several forum members it is. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/61940-delkin-charger-m8-support-next-month.html

So far you're the only one having a problem with this charger...it's the same story as with the M8...a small percentage of failure leads to a product being branded unreliable generally. I actually charged another battery with it last night and there is one sitting in it today. I will still get the Delkin when it comes out just becasue of the proper insert plate. I'm always wondering IF I have the battery in the charger correctly and the pins lined up right with the AnsMann. Even though the green light flashes. wilfredo Posted September 2, 2008 Share #33 Posted September 2, 2008 When will Leica produce a simple smaller charger like the one for the Canon 5D? I'm assuming that this is a technical feat and that Leica is not up to the challenge. Cheers, Wilfredo
jaapv Posted September 2, 2008 Share #34 Posted September 2, 2008 Leica does not produce chargers; they relabel third-party products...

As far as they are concerned the supplied charger is all the M8 user needs. Your best bet is to get the AnsMann Vario or wait for the Delkin with M8 battery plates and just forget about Leica doning anything.

I agree it's fussy getting those contacts where you want them (God help me if I forget my reading glasses ). If I knew the Delkin would be making a plate I would have held off. Problem is, by the time you add up the cost of the Vario plus the Delkin you could buy a second M8 charger.

That's true but I already have 2 Leica chargers, 2 M8's. I'm looking for something that is smaller and will charge the batteries faster, faster isn't a big concern. To bad we could adapt the plate on the original Leica charger to fit on the Ansmann Vario. The Delkin unit is a dual charger, 2 batteries at the same time.
