andit Posted August 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, This is now slightly off topic, but I was just wondering if anyone has ever used or seen this little Leica M3 replica? I spotted one of these in Windhoek in a shop window this morning. Through the window it looks interesting... Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hi andit, Take a look here Leica M3 / Minox 5mp. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ibogost Posted August 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2008 They always have these in airplane duty free catalogs. I've never actually seen one though. I suppose it's more of a toy than anything, but sometimes these little oddities can do interesting things. It certainly isn't priced like a toy though. farnz Posted August 19, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2008 Andreas, I have the 4MP version and it's pretty much a gimmick. It appears to be a plastic lens that produces bleary images, focussing is hit or miss and the functions are basic at best. That aside though, it is an attractive camera from certain angles and is at its best strategically placed on a bookshelf. Pete.
salsa Posted August 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2008 Hi Andreas, I bought one some time ago. It's a nice little toy but not more than that. Image quality is a joke, less than the quality of an average mobile-phone. But it's an excellent eye-catcher (if that is important) or collection-item. Cheers, Salsa
SJP Posted August 20, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2008 Then Leica should include this in a lens upgrade programme.
MikeyM Posted February 19, 2011 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2011 I noticed that this for UK readers there is a special offer on this for £99.99 in today's Daily Telegraph (Weekend page W4) although it looks as though it isn't for serious picture taking ! pop Posted February 19, 2011 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have seen those at several occasions in shop windows in Switzerland. They look cute but I have no idea whatsoever concerning their picture taking capabilities. Given the price and the brand names involved, I'd have thought they took at least adequate pictures. My other camera used to be a Minox.
giordano Posted February 19, 2011 Share #8 Posted February 19, 2011 The "5MP" is actually 3.2MP interpolated, and the specs show the user has no control over exposure, ISO or WB. Unlike the "real" Minoxes it's a toy not a tool.
simon8202 Posted February 19, 2011 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2011 I had one for a while and it's cute but the pictures it takes aren't great! Colours are way off and it really is more of a toy but you can make some decent effects with it. I 'upgraded' it to the latest Minox digital spy camera which has similar innards to this camera but a nicer form. Pictures from this are similarly 'interesting' and if you'd like to see a few there are some here on a blog I started. minoxing the digital way Simon
Digitom Posted February 19, 2011 Share #10 Posted February 19, 2011 Hello, I own one that little one Minox DCC. I had chance to buy a new one by accident via ebay for only 45 Euro. So I took the chance and I think it is a nice little camera. Well, do not expect Leica quality . 1st I was disappointed about the image quality. Several pictures were overexposed when there were parts of the picture in bright sulight. Then, after my Minox had a little "accident" (falling on the street, still working after that, but there was a crack in the housing) it went to Minox service and when it cames back, also there was a new firmware installed, they told me. Well, one can see some of my pics at flickr Mit der MINOX DCC M3 5.0plus unterwegs... I think for the price I paid it is ok, and very well for experimental photography. I would not take this camera with me as a main camera when going on a trip, but as a 2nd one together with a main camera it is nice - and often you can get into nice contact to other people when they see this little one
