farnz Posted September 24, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) If anyone's interested, I recently found and purchased for about £40 a revolutionary new tripod called a Gorillapod, which has been outstandingly useful. The Gorillapod is designed to keep your camera steady by gripping just about any handily placed object, as shown in the picture gallery of the weblink at the bottom of this post. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! It holds my D2 steadily enough to take 2 second exposures and has taken to life in my gadget bag like it's always been there, saving me from having to lug the Manfrotto about with me. Since the Gorillapod copes with the weight of the D2 it should also cope with Ms and Rs but I'm not sure whether it could cope with an R9/DMR combination. The secret of the Gorillapod is the gray, anti-slip discs that give purchase on virtually any dry surface, and the 'stay-putness' (a new word that needed inventing!) of its links This model is the Gorillapod SLR but there is a smaller model that is designed for compact cameras. Further details at this address: http://www.joby.com/galleryslr.html Pete.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! farnz Posted September 25, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 25, 2006 MADE IN CHINA According to the link below, Joby, the company behind the Gorillapod, is based in Santa Cruz, California. So, unless Joby outsources manufacture to China I presume that they're made in USA. It also seems unlikely that they're made in China because Chinese is not one of the available languages on the Joby website. Do you have better information? Joby Inc. marknorton Posted September 25, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2006 Perfectly possible it's sub-contracted out to China and nothing wrong with that. The Chinese are masters at low cost mass production. Apple iPod, anyone?
dugby Posted September 25, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 25, 2006 MADE IN CHINABest That's goodness....... if it were made anywhere else just add another one or two 0's to the price.
