andybarton Posted September 10, 2008 Author Share #81 Posted September 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andy, I haven't looked at times etc but Wizzair fly from Glasgow to Katowice which is approx 70K from Krakow. Might be an option? They fly from Prestwick, which is to Glasgow what Stansted is to London - but without the transport interchange. Coming from Edinburgh, on public transport, that would be a right royal. Then there's the short 70k trip at the other end. Thanks for the thought, though, James. stunsworth Posted September 10, 2008 Share #82 Posted September 10, 2008 On a more positive note, I've been in touch with Leica UK and they have once again agreed to sponsor the event. As well as a small gift for all the participants, they will also provide a piece of Leica branded leisurewear for the winner - see picture below - available in medium, large and extra-large at the request of the winner... earleygallery Posted September 10, 2008 Share #84 Posted September 10, 2008 Oh yeah that shirt logo is going to go down so well with the UK police forces (if of course a UK participant wins) !!!! Well done Steve for getting sponsorship once again. Andy, glad you've been able to make alternative arrangements. Restaurant details to follow, watch this space......... earleygallery Posted September 18, 2008 Share #86 Posted September 18, 2008 Bit previous on the weather forecasting Andy! It's coming up fast though isn't it. I have a read up on a couple of places off the main square that offer Polish food (and other choices). I just need to get around to contacting them and putting the details up here. Please bear with me......

stunsworth Posted September 19, 2008 Share #88 Posted September 19, 2008 I have a bit of a problem. I don't have sufficient Euros to pay the entrance fee. Would it be ok to pay in either Euros or the equivalent Zlotys? It seems a waste to change some sterling into Euros and get a big hit with the fees, when I only need a few of them. I know Erl has a similar problem. Any thoughts? Of course if someone from the UK would be prepared to exchange some Euros for Sterling that would solve my problem, and Erl has mentioned that he has a Paypal account, so he could do the same using Paypal to pay. Hope that made sense.
andybarton Posted September 19, 2008 Author Share #89 Posted September 19, 2008 I have spoken to my currency exchange rate advisor, Mr Mugabe, who has advised that changing Zloty to Euros to Pound sterling to Australian dollars, and back shouldn't be a problem. He has his own special formula that involves knocking 10 zeros off the notes... I don't think that we need get too hung up on it, to be honest. I have 20 Euro in my wallet that I haven't changed back since I was last over in June. I will owe you some money for the meter, no doubt, so some of that could be made in Zloty. I am sure that the European Central Bank will help us out in extreme circumstances too. Edit 11:00: Robert M says that 10 Euro = 34 Zloty = £8 = AU$18 = ZIM$1,310 Edit 13:00: No, wait, there's an update on that last rate coming through:o
stunsworth Posted September 19, 2008 Share #90 Posted September 19, 2008 Cheers Andy. It's all acadaemic since either Erl or myself is going to win, but thanks. I suppose there ought to be a final reminder that everyone and anyone is welcome (got to push up that prize somehow), the only restriction is that you use a Leica camera and/or lens. As usual there will be a small gift from Leica for every participant. However if you're hoping it's a new Noctilux or Sumilux I'm afraid you will be disapointed. erl Posted September 19, 2008 Share #92 Posted September 19, 2008 Yeah! But this year I'm actually coming. HaHa. Late incentive to participants: I will throw in a StreetShooter for the winner - either digital or analog, which ever is preferred. Sorry about the R user's without M's. Maybe a good excuse to buy an M8.2.
bill Posted September 19, 2008 Share #93 Posted September 19, 2008 Gentlemen, I have bad news. Having booked my flights etc last weekend, I then spent the first couple of days of this week in hospital. It's nothing particularly major - but I have now had the third doctor in a week tell me that I am not allowed to fly for a month...:mad: Pissed off is not the word. My best wishes to all who participate this year, and may the best man (or woman) win. Regards, Bill

Being serious, that's a bugger, but it's best to listen to the medics. See you next year, if not sooner.

bill Posted September 19, 2008 Share #96 Posted September 19, 2008 Thanks Steve. Sadly the medics have me over a barrel. If I travel and have a relapse (and flying can cause a relapse, apparently) I would not be covered by medical insurance because I had flown against doctor's orders. Bugger. J and I had talked about driving over if I get myself organised with an M6. If I do manage to get a camera sorted in time, you would be welcome to come with us in her little Fiat (she'd have to sit in the back of course ) Chris
erl Posted September 19, 2008 Share #99 Posted September 19, 2008 Biil, that is devastating news. I really understand your pain as I only got the all clear myself two days ago! Difference is, I was going to fly anyway, except I would have been limping rather nervously. Matt, not clear on your situation but if you are struggling to get a camera together I can probably lend you an M7. I know it's not an M6, but close. stunsworth Posted September 19, 2008 Share #100 Posted September 19, 2008 Matt, just to follow on to what Erl said, if you want an M6 to use I can lend you one. I have a few lenses too.
