Advertisement Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Hi mgcd, Take a look here Has anyone seen Brent or Dean?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lambroving Posted June 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2006 Hello Conrad, I invited Bill and copied Brent. Maybe he's up north in hiding? Anyway, I expect Dean knows as Bill does nothing without him.
mgcd Posted June 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted June 30, 2006 Thanks William. It would indeed be nice to have them around.

mgcd Posted June 30, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted June 30, 2006 HMM who knows.... it could be a very calculated Shakespearian entrance or abstinance John - Interesting point... Neither of them strikes me that way though. I am just wondering whether they may have decided to pack it in instead...
billh Posted June 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 30, 2006 Just wondering if they transferred over yet. I know Bill H. is here... Hi Conrad, I just received a note from Brent offering to send his Kayak so I could go to work, so he is still out and about. Dean is due back east soon because his son has a bike race back here. They probably have not had time to peek in yet. I have a question - Apparently the M8 has the R9 shutter. How loud is this shutter if you release it with the mirror locked up? I am trying to get a sense of whether the M8 will be as quiet as the film Ms. Thanks! Bill

How loud is this shutter if you release it with the mirror locked up? I am trying to get a sense of whether the M8 will be as quiet as the film Ms. Thanks! Bill Hi Bill, Thanks. Good to hear from you. Sorry to hear that you've been affected by the flooding in the Northeast, I hope all is well nevertheless. To answer your question, the shutter itself is pretty quiet, it's the mirror slapping back in place that is noisy. I just checked to make sure. Will it be as quiet as the film Ms? Possibly... Although I don't see why the M8 would need the R8/9 shutter as it will not use film: it "may" not need a traditional shutter at all, in this case. From an engineering point of view I believe some high end DSLRs, for example, don't have a traditional shutter either. There may be a reason for it to have a traditional shutter, honestly since I am not an engineer I could not tell you.
stunsworth Posted June 30, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2006 Conrad, the digital M will have a shutter - seems to be the one from the R9. I can't think of a high-end digital SLR that doesn't have a shutter.
mgcd Posted June 30, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted June 30, 2006 Steve - I am not contesting that the M8 will have a shutter. I was just musing as to its technical necessity. Again, not being an engineer, my understanding of the rudiments of sensors is that to expose they only need to turn "on" for what ever time is appropriate. So I let my musing get the better of me
pxlpal2 Posted July 1, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 1, 2006 Shutter, schmutter; Hi guys, Finally made it here. Andreas got me straightened out so that I am able to post. Best regards to all and nice to see you here. Frank M.

leica_girl58 Posted July 2, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 2, 2006 I was wondering where the "old" crew was and if they were planning on making the trip to the new forum. I am happy to see that Bill H is alive and well and made the switch over. Is Yur here yet? darlene
stunsworth Posted July 2, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 2, 2006 Darlene, I believe Yur is here, albeit under a different name :-)
mgcd Posted July 3, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted July 3, 2006 Steve - Last I heard Yur was on his way to Jakarta. Saw his yatch in Kuala Lumpur this past Wednesday.
billh Posted July 3, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 3, 2006 Darlene, You are back!!!! How have you been? This is like old times. Who knows, maybe the squirrel will surface next.
leica_girl58 Posted July 3, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 3, 2006 I am laughing here... I am trying hard to behave and not mention the squirrel, but of course Yur and Bill both mentioned the critter in my "welcome back" message..even on the same day. Don't forget Bill...it was your squirrel to begin with... Anyhow, I am back and probably will check in on a regular basis. darlene
mgcd Posted July 4, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted July 4, 2006 I have the feeling that Dean did not "cross-over" (that sounds like those current ghost TV shows...). The last post I read from him in the old forum seemed to indicate that he would not bother.
billh Posted July 5, 2006 Share #18 Posted July 5, 2006 "I read from him in the old forum seemed to indicate that he would not bother." He could not fathom all the rudeness he saw on the list. Is the reason for this new one to to avoid a replay of that kind of thing? It seems i saw a reference to this somewhere on the new list.
billh Posted July 5, 2006 Share #19 Posted July 5, 2006 I remember Darlene. That was one well traveled squirrel! I am delighted you are back. I will have to peek in more often to see what is happening.
lambroving Posted July 5, 2006 Share #20 Posted July 5, 2006 Hello Bill, You may expect this Forum to be much more tightly moderated as Andreas is watching closely as are Ron Schmidt and Klaus-Dieter Finke, both of whom speak excellent English.
