Advertisement Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Hi andalus, Take a look here HELP! Leaving.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael-IIIf Posted July 9, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2008 You've got to take whatever you are happiest with. Any responses here will be other peoples' viewpoints, not yours. If I was faced with that selection I would take the 28 only. Travel light, travel fast. No changing lens to worry about. But that's me, it might not necessarily be you. Guest zwicko Posted July 9, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2008 Well, since I don´t like anything longer than 90mm on my M I´d take the 28 and 50. Or - to keep things simple: 28 or 50 only. Cheers, Z.
stunsworth Posted July 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 9, 2008 I'd take the 28/50. Never owned a 135. Borrowed one once, good performance, but not a focal length I thought I'd need.
DTD Posted July 9, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2008 I'd agree with stunsworth – but I'm not really a telephoto kind of chap.
peter_n Posted July 9, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2008 I use all three and recommend a 28mm/50mm combination. You will find that those two will cover most eventualities. I took a 135mm on a trip to Madrid a few years ago and used it, but not much. While I like a 28/50 combo, I also find that 35/75 also works very well. I was recently in Germany with a 24/35/75 combo and that covered absolutely everything. In the future you may want to consider a 21/28/50 kit. Have a wonderful trip and post photos when you get back! Photon42 Posted July 9, 2008 Share #7 Posted July 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) India is a great place, not only for taking pictures. If you know what kind of pictures you likely will take, you know your combination. Otherwise, follow the advise already given and take along the 28/50. Easier to carry. But then, r u sure, it's only two pieces of glass you are limited to??
Guest wls.shanghai Posted July 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2008 .....strange question for me - ?? is up to YOU only - what kind pf pictures you "looking" for! Regards wls
Guest darkstar2004 Posted July 9, 2008 Share #9 Posted July 9, 2008 Definitely the 28 & 50, IMHO. Why can't you take all three? Just wondering...
spylaw4 Posted July 9, 2008 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2008 28+50 - definitely. I never felt the need for my 135. Indeed, now I might only take a 35.
andybarton Posted July 9, 2008 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2008 I went to Venice for a week this year with only an M2 and a 35 Summicron. I don't regret it at all, despite having a shelf full of alternatives here above me. Enjoy your experience - then take photographs. In that order. Guest s.m.e.p. Posted July 10, 2008 Share #13 Posted July 10, 2008 28 + 50 + MP is the perfect travel combination!
Guest Austerby Posted July 10, 2008 Share #14 Posted July 10, 2008 India's a very crowded place, full of wonderful potential photographs. On that basis, I'd suggest a radical approach and go for the extremes - the 28mm for street / buildings and the 135mm for picking out isolated detail in the crowds. 15 years ago I went all over India with my trusty Nikon FE and two lenses - a 28mm and a 80-200mm zoom (I was young and didn't know any better). I mainly used the 28mm but some of the best shots were with the zoom. I didn't miss a 50mm at all, though now it's my favourite focal length.
