Advertisement Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Hi Radical, Take a look here Leica M6J. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JBA Posted June 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2008 Today in Tokyo, I checked the price of one of these in perfect condition including inner wooden box and outer box. It was closer to $5000.
Ivar B Posted June 24, 2008 Share #3 Posted June 24, 2008 I agree with JBA, the price is too high. This is a camera mostly bought for collection purposes, and as such it needs to come with the box and papers. Like more or less all special Leica models it does not retain value very well (although the M6J is one of the better ones) and for $6000 you should get a mint camera in box and with papers. Have a look here: Photo Arsenal Hope this is some help All the best Ruben Well guess we all know Arsenal does not have realistic prices compared to the overall market, so this would be hard to compare
sabears Posted June 25, 2008 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2008 Right Ron! Moreover you have to consider that their prices are clean, first you have to add VAT (19%) shipping charges etc,and that sometimes their valuation are unpredictable (I have bought from them A items that were really a B-,and to be honest another time I've bought a B that was for sure a true A) cheers
leitz_not_leica Posted June 26, 2008 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2008 So, the box and papers is worth 900GPB?

Guest Posto 6 Posted November 21, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 21, 2008 Anyone ever come across any pre-production or experimental M6J's? Also, any ideas why the viewfinder was changed when the M6HM was eventually introduced? I find this to be the most satisfying modern Leica, even nicer than the standard MP. Pity Leica do not offer the top-plate as an option for the MP à la carte range- I for one would adore a black one!

jc_braconi Posted November 21, 2008 Share #13 Posted November 21, 2008 I think that the M6J is a commerative edition so a collector item and with this protocol must be complete and in mint condition.
Guest Posto 6 Posted November 22, 2008 Share #14 Posted November 22, 2008 Although issued as a commemorative edition, the M6J was rather different from other commemoratives, due to the fact that it had significant functional and operational improvements. Not only was it at the time the only model with the .85 finder, but in many ways it was a precursor of the modern MP, with it's better quality of build and assembly. As a result, many (myself included) have chosen to use them extensively, and been extremely satisfied with the results. I feel that in many ways this is a model that has been cursed by being lumped together with the other spurious collectable editions, when in fact it is one of Leica's masterpieces. I would be fascinated by any light that can be shed on it's development and history.

The M6J was the first M with a viewfinder magnification close to that of the M3 since the M3 and the build quality is superb - if you've held one you'll know. I too would be interested in its developmental history.

I'm tempted!!
Guest Posto 6 Posted November 26, 2008 Share #17 Posted November 26, 2008 I have also seen a nice camera on their site, but had never heard of them before. Are they reliable and well established, and has anyone had any experiences with them?
mole73 Posted November 27, 2008 Share #18 Posted November 27, 2008 The M6J is the direct predecessor to the MP. It is a lovely peace of mechanical perfection. And I like the engraving of the M6J a lot! Robert

Are they reliable and well established, and has anyone had any experiences with them? Posto 6 -- Maybe the OP knows... I also had never heard of them but when I looked at their website I found that by comparison with the kind of used M stock most UK dealers are currently holding, they have a stock of extraordinary range, quality and volume -- APPARENTLY... And one of the three M6J sets they have would be v tempting. The fact that there is no English langauge site adds to the difficulty, mind you! Guest Posto 6 Posted November 27, 2008 Share #20 Posted November 27, 2008 I called them to enquire about the camera, but they do not take cards or Paypal over the phone. I am not that comfortable sending significant money transfers to people where I have no knowledge or previous experience to reassure me. Anyway, I fear we are getting off-message....
