Now that everyone has become an expert on the M8 over the past week - including me :-) and we finally, after all this time of waiting, know which direction Leica took for the M,

I wonder if some of the more experienced user of this forum would like to take it a step further and suggest, what a M9 could or should look like?

How about a magnifying viewfinder? Would love it!

Lets hear it from you guys and gals

...How about a magnifying viewfinder?...

Agree. I want a 1:1 VF or at least a .91x one a la M3 and i still dream of a variable VF magnification or interchangeable VF.

Also, I want a flippable LCD a la R-D1. I find that piece of glass and related buttons too disturbing during shootings.

Finally the M9 should address the ergonomic flaws of the M8: ISO and EV controls, decent top LCD, easy access to SD card and battery, PC socket.

Figure this out without a FF sensor, I just don't think you will ever see one in the next 5 years. The yields are too high and the cost too high for a indepentent company like Leica to buy from vendors that can supply that at a cost and there are only a handfulf of them to start with. It's like going to Kodak and saying can i have your sensor that you make for the Phase One P45 in a slightly small size at 10 percent of the cost. The P45 just in case is 30k for a back only. The only way to get one today is build it yourself at hundreds of millions of dollars for a factory

Given that the frame lines (like those in any M) are only strictly accurate at short distances, Erwin suggested around 1.5m, does this really matter?

You are all, of course missing the point. The M9 will be a film camera to replace the M7. Leica named the digital rangefinder the M8, with no reference to "D" or "Digital" in the name to stress its place in the continuity of the M series, not as some kind of ''new beginning'. :)

Who's Erwin? :D;)

I don't know for you, Tim, but to me what i view in the VF is essential for composition.

Of course i know that the frame lines are not 100% accurate but they are all like that aren't they so there still remains a difference between them.

No need to transport film though the lever now missing could be a battery-saver on the shutter.

Perhaps someone at Leica could next time pay more attention to the exposure-time-dial and get it to go in the right direction.

Photographers have sensitive eyes: please, standard a grey or black dot.

Sell the red dot as an accessory for the collecter, sell it with huge profit.

But more seriously, lets first seehow the M8 performs.

I'm looking foreward to get my hands on one.
