Funnily enough, only the day before, my 14yo son, Alex, spent a days work experience at Rolls Royce Aero in Bristol with a family friend. He learnt all about design parameters for miltary and civilian engines. The design parameters for the engines in balloons seems much the same - max thrust or heat per unit fuel!
