hi evita - nice to see your photos :-))

scans from print??? sorry but they look too digitalized to me. it is possible from film scan but from paper scan a much better repro can be achieved (without digitalization feeling)... but it is small internet - u never trust it for good and for bad....:-)) just kidding :-)))))))))

i love the third one very much - the one with hand straches and warm up. it is powerful in this particular context :-) great

the rest of the photo are good too, but i would like to see more.. u give me here a story but as u dont tell me enough at all. show more of your impressions from that place it will be more powerful as series

ha ha evita - why this sounds to me like "echo" of stefan :-))))))))

at least u dont sound as broken record as stefan sometimes... :-))) (with respect to both of u and each one in its own :-)))))))

now seriously....

u know - i admire those people... there sport performance is not exactly entertaining to be honest - it is not those athlets with elegant, powerful, agressive, cat-like moves....

but they are "michel jordans".... "michel jordans" of "life" and "spirit".

seriously... i simply admire their ability to rise and to do things regardless of everything, and partly because of their conditions that turned to their mental power....

why make bigger series - cause it is intresting. their life are intresting... the personalities are intresting many times. and photography is a great medium to document it - to make them "heros" a real "winners" (i dont mind that much about how many matches they win in that championship - they are already champions).

im helping from time to time the deaf community here in israel....

so i have some insight to this "almost different world" (as they say themselves). i helped to manage a big production - "queen of beauty contest for deafs", with celebs, tv people/actors, singers etc. u cannot imagine how proud they have been of themselves with this "big" production. they say that they are "on map" now, more awareness... well, awareness, lets not be naive... this is a small part in my opinion. the big part was the happiness on their faces - the pride etc ect.

i also made for their community photographs of their "dancing club". everything for free of course, and almost everybody was working for free for those couple of things (people that are payed very well for their work otherwise). now, i was really exited to see them dancing... u know - most of them cannot really hear the music - they feel the "bits" through the flour and they study to dance that way....

sorry evita - 4 pictures for those people are simply not enough. they have "different world", intresting in its own way, and we r not always aware of it.

sorry if it sounds as a kind of dramatic commercial for this or that competition or "happening"... i also know how to make those commercials :-))) but i really belive they are champions. so if u do have access to this thing, the i think it WORTH SHOING

huh? Victor, I've lost you, I was referring to this http://www.leica-camera-user.com/people/4462-re-energizing-supergirl.html#post49199 post and the scanning discussion there...

I disagree, have you ever seen a competition?

so if u do have access to this thing, the i think it WORTH SHOING

that's what I'm doing, Vic, don't want to crash the forum though, and printing needs time as well, good things need time ;)

Uwe, thanks again :)

Evita -

It has been much too long since I've seen any of your photos. This series is technically right on the money, and very sensitive. Wonderful job. I really like the moments you've captured, your subjects, framing, contrast and tones.

The last is quite impressive but then again I have a bias towards busy images. The almost low but not really low viewpoint is intriguing and adds that extra compression to the image. This almost mimiks the cramped conditions these athletes face to perform in an otherwise free flowing activity. I am not sure about these retro style borders,( I know they are a bit of a fashion thing at the moment), hopefully the image works well without the border.

ps not a big fan of the angle shot unless there is a obvious reason

Rob, M6 with 35/2 asph., all kodak tri-x 400 in d-76.

stnami, if the picture works because of the border then it is good for one thing only, to be thrown in the trashcan. don't know if it's fashion or not, I don't care about fashion, the pictures come out like this of my enlarger, and that's the way they hang on the wall... :)

ha ha evita - about the borders... well, im not a big fun of borders usually, but dont mind that much. the photo itself is most important. but one thing should be noticed .... borders=presentation (or part of it at least) so dear, they are of some importance.

on the enlarger..... take some good easel with four baldes (recomended = keinzle - really great, but there are very very cheap meoptas too with four baldes i think up to 30x40cm as far as i remeber ). besides u use special cutting over there - so it is intentional and installed??? :-))))))))))

no evita... i have not seen this particular competition... but i saw many times swiming and bascketball, and even sprints. as i said - the point here is not the athletic superiority, the point here is spirit and that what makes those competitions exiting.

since these 4 pictures are not a repetition of the same motive from different angles it makes sense to show them in one go. this I call "series". the other stuff we see here normally are just repetitions of the same motive.

very good work and prints!

show them the other 10...

Thanks Evita, appreciate response.

From a critique point of view if I can offer, all are good, and I like them all, but one and four are pretty standard fare that anyone worth their salt could take. You see em in local rags all the time. Three is better. But frame two, well when you start looking that, with the wheel of the chair bracing but not overpowering the frame, to the glove, to the face, lending strong direction, and then the surrounding diagonals on the court and markings, the direction of equipment...I reckon it comes together in a pretty seriously good image. I wouldn't have seen something like this in a year of christmas's. Everything you need to know is there to describe the event, the athletes condition, timing in the competition.

Presume you saw it, I really don't think it is somthing someone just blatting away could jag.

do you record yourself on a tape recorder? do it in stereo... it sounds better, then when you want to hear yourself from time to time ...

ha ha ha stefan.... are u serious with what u said man?????

og dear... i really love your photography, and i really love our comments exchanges... but now u really disapointed me....

look, REPETITIONS, is one of the most important, one of the most effective methods in art that helps to intensify the content of the work, go deeper and deeper etc. and not only in photography... in all forms of art (music, leterture, painting etc etc).

it creates progression, it creates comparison, it creates evalutions and evaluation....

it is SYNERGY = when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

it is ABC in art, mate....

i dont mind if u know to look at repeated images or not... i will say that at the moment, evitas photos are not series as such - they are RANDOM collection. i do like them.. but i would like ... yes... repatitions. to concentrate her attention on one of the persons... to show me more abou thim. sorry - i dont neccessarly need ONE PHOTO that shows everything. i love this kind of works too, those that have the power to be STAND ALONE> but lets not be naive, they dont really show THE WHOLE STORY AT ONCE, at least not by means of direct impression of occurance.

Victor, my series, of which I have uploaded only 4 pictures here, is NOT about ONE fencer, it is about (wheelchair)fencing, so the pictures are all different in content, showing the common moments that happen during the competition, from start to end. A repetition of one and the same fencer, from different angles is... a repetition, and not a series nor a story, nor a documentation, but would be plein boring, at least to me. So, surprise surprise, I agree with Stefan. Above I had already told you that I had more pictures, but I don't think that the forum is the place to show the whole series, as I would have to post some pictures in some threads that would then lose connection.

about the other points in your and Robs post I'll answer later time, gotta go now.
