sdai Posted June 10, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2008 That's basically what I've said previously in another thread ... it's a Canon, a rehashed 1Ds 2 with a Kodak sensor. Even the name is very Canonish.

miami91 Posted June 11, 2008 Share #12 Posted June 11, 2008 Price of "2 kilos" sounds costly, especially if weighed in paper notes. Oh well. As is often said, "Leica always knew to swim and to keep the clothes". Jeff.
Guest Whitewillow321 Posted June 11, 2008 Share #13 Posted June 11, 2008 There is no need to translate that Spanish blog. I found an english news source. The Online Photographer: Demise of the Epson R-D1 Digital Rangefinder The British Journal of Photography. Interestingly, Epson was surprised by the good demand for the camera and sold out its production run earlier than anticipated. I suspect they discontinued the product because its really not their main product line.
Guest Whitewillow321 Posted June 12, 2008 Share #14 Posted June 12, 2008 I may have translated the wrong article. Anyways, i think i was aiming in the right direction..compact directional range finder by Epson..Could Leica have picked up the rights to it? It sounds like the same brand name. ho_co Posted June 12, 2008 Share #16 Posted June 12, 2008 "That who me a this? , good, the question is not that, the case is that.""It's English, Jim, but not as we know it". Machine translation has a way to go... Mark-- Here's a machine translation I got from the thread (no longer available) "What makes it a Leica?" on the old forum, just so you feel better: "Essential matter is is" is yet, that the red point thereon then white one, who Leica and where and of whom produced is finally equal. Original was in a paragraph explaining that the poster had visited Leica and asked "What makes it a Leica?" Answer: "Hauptsache ist doch, dass der rote Punkt drauf ist" dann weiß man, das ist Leica und wo und von wem produziert ist schließlich egal. That is, '"The main thing is that it has the red dot." Then it's clear that it's a Leica, and where and by whom it's produced makes no difference.' (The peculiar use of quotation marks is present in the original. Vernacular English rendering is mine.) But I like the machine translation better. Price of "2 kilos" sounds costly, especially if weighed in paper notes. Oh well. As is often said, "Leica always knew to swim and to keep the clothes". Jeff. My Spanish is virtually non-existent, but as I read it, JRB is saying that R lenses won't work without an adapter, and the adapter will add ca 2 kilos to the setup. (At least I hope that's what it says!) (That would likely bring it up to the weight of a 1D series camera, I guess ... )
ho_co Posted June 12, 2008 Share #17 Posted June 12, 2008 I may have translated the wrong article. Anyways, i think i was aiming in the right direction..compact directional range finder by Epson..Could Leica have picked up the rights to it? It sounds like the same brand name. I didn't check your link, but the Spanish post is definitely about a new R-1D reflex, not the R-D1.
ho_co Posted June 12, 2008 Share #18 Posted June 12, 2008 "That who me a this? , good, the question is not that, the case is that." ... Mark, thewarrior is right: Final paragraph comes out something like: "So you want to ask who told me? That's not the question. The fact is that I know." Sounds as if thewarrior and Simon have the same source this time. <g>
ho_co Posted June 12, 2008 Share #19 Posted June 12, 2008 At a different site I got the following somewhat clearer translation. BTW, the site offers a professional translation for $80.96. http://ets.freetranslation.com/ Characteristics of the new one Leica R-1D. And besides itself presetará a flash S-Ttl for her, equal this by-product of the of another acquaintance mark. That who me it to said?, good, is not that the question, the case is that it itself. "Answer #1: June 11, 2008 - 22:17:37" apparently is final that the objectives -R serve not, alone with an adaptor that will develop to such end. The price itself ira to the almost 2 kilograms.
