photophile Posted May 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am curious as to people's experiences with some of the self-publish book companies like Blurb, Mypublisher, Lulu, Asuka, Snapfish, etc. I would like to produce a few copies of my work to show clients and perhaps sell at events. Has anyone had good / bad experiences with this type of product. How is the quality, price, paper, photographic reproduction as compared to original work.. and so forth? Thanks. cocker Posted May 16, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 16, 2008 I used Blurb to produce a Hardback and was delighted with the results.
Michael Hiles Posted May 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 16, 2008 I have used PhotoInPress.ca : livre photo | photo book with very good results. It is mainly for small-ish books, but the software was easy to use and the resulting book was good. I did one of about 30 pages, as a christmas gift for 4 people who were mainly the subjects of the pictures. A friend has used Blurb with very good results. adan Posted May 17, 2008 Share #7 Posted May 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It sounds like an echo - but I looked through the print portfolio of a recently-hired photographer at my paper (and a Pulitzer winner at her old paper for last year) and it was a very nice Blurb hardback with dustcover. Really very good quality.
photophile Posted May 18, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted May 18, 2008 Thank you all for the advice. Sounds like Blurb is the way to go. I shall try it. Best. CH
Agent M10 Posted May 27, 2008 Share #9 Posted May 27, 2008 Here is a blog post that speaks of the printing process with Blurb versus Lulu (here). Sounds like if you create an iPhoto book, you'll have a good idea what a Blurb book will look like (it's cheaper too).

I'm in the UK (which I think is part of Europe ) and I used Blurb and my books come from Switzerland. I don't recall any tax or customs problems. DTD Posted May 28, 2008 Share #13 Posted May 28, 2008 Shouldn't be any problem with Blurb. The iPhoto and Aperture books on a mac are great – but delivery can be slow. PhotoBox not bad, found myphotobook software bit clunky. Kodak gallery was pretty good. Advantage of lulu etc is you can design the book yourself if you're into that and upload it as a pdf. Most of the others use templates, which might be a bit limiting. But photo books are a brilliant way to display pictures.
Agent M10 Posted May 28, 2008 Share #14 Posted May 28, 2008 I've read about WHCC - has anyone used them? Many rave about the quality.

Streaky colour in solid areas - quite uacceptable. Good that they refunded all costs even of the replacments.
