In the third shot the sun was almost directly behind the tree in the background. Flare and veiling glare are so well controlled. All shots were taken without a lens hood. I generally always use a lens hood outdoors, especially in bright conditions. But it's great to be able to shoot without a hood since it makes for a very compact package. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Nokton. If you need the speed then there is no point in a Summarit. But the Nokton is a seriously big lens by comparison. jeffwros Posted April 9, 2008 Share #9 Posted April 9, 2008 Just sold a Nokton f/1.2 because of the size and "dfferent" look I was getting compared to my Leica lenses. It's quite sharp and works nicely but I found that I simply wasn't using it instead opting for my Leica lenses. Again, I'm not disparaging the Nokton ...it works very well and was plenty sharp. Just, for me, I was ready to sell it. I was thinking about the 35 Summicron someday but the Summarit may become a strong contender if I keep reading these threads! Guy Mancuso carried out a very extensive resolution & bokeh comparison between the 35 Summarit and 35 Summicron IV not so long ago. You should be able to locate it via search. I sold my 35 CRON IV some months ago. In these conditions I am absolutely certain it would not have performed as well as the 35 Summarit. Harsh lighting across foliage and the like in the background always resulted in disturbing bokeh. And below 2.8 veiling glare was a problem. Given that I often shoot in bright, perhaps harsh, outdoor conditions these were issues for me. If you shoot more often in soft lighting then the bokeh of the CRON IV is on par. I see no reason to buy a CRON IV nowadays since a new Summarit is so well priced. The Summarit at f2.5 (actually 2.4) seems better allround than the CRON IV at the same aperture. It is also 6 bit coded and comes with a 2 year warranty. How can you go wrong? Ozkar Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

For the pictures of the close up flower I can set the aperature at f/4 and also get that same blurry background effect. With f/2.5 the shots are .... fairly sharp all over (except for the close ups) Bokeh aside, looks like a great lens but the Zeiss Biogon has simliar Bokeh (although no Leica name ) and the CV Nokton 35 f/1.2 is simply stunning for bokeh and centre sharpness only (it has to be, its almost as big and heavy as the Noctilux! ) Best Rob Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am not impressed...but it seems I am in a minority here. Considering that the background in all three are lit by somewhat bright, harsh light the bokeh is very good. I was deliberately trying to provoke unwieldy bokeh, but the Summarit responds very well.
