Guest cangunsiray@gmail.com Posted April 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm planning to buy a Color Skopar 21 to use on a chrome M6. Does anyone have pictures of the camera itself with a skopar 21 chrome on it? I can't decide whether i should buy in black or chrome. can
Advertisement Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hi Guest cangunsiray@gmail.com, Take a look here Color Skopar 21mm Chrome or Black on M6 Chrome. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
veraikon Posted April 8, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 8, 2008 I can't decide whether i should buy in black or chrome. I had the same problem and I deceided for chrome - but not on aestethical aspects. You can notice that black and chrome Voigtländers and Zeiss´s lenses have the same weight. Leica lenses not. The reason is simple. Leica produces the outer part of black lens from aluminimun which can be "anodized" perfectly black (in fact it is a something more complex process) - you cant rub it off. Chrome outer parts are made from brass which can be chromed you cant rub it off. You can´t anodized brass or chrome aluminium. After requests in RFF I was told that Voigtländer / Zeiss are only made in brass. "Silver" lenses are chromed and black are painted . And there is a problem . Some RFF member said something of brassing off at normal use. (NB. not every black VC lens ist brassing but there are). I could not find any pattern (depending uses, series or modell) So I went to the sure side and took silver -chrome. If you can live with possible but not necessary brassing ! - the decision is pure aesthetical
Guest cangunsiray@gmail.com Posted April 8, 2008 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2008 So I went to the sure side and took silver -chrome. If you can live with possible but not necessary brassing ! - the decision is pure aesthetical so you're saying chrome color skopar is more durable than the black color skopar. and about the aesthetical issue: are you using it on a black body or silver? it would be great if someone posted a photo of chrome m6 with chrome skopar 21. because black is always nearly the same, and black lenses never look weird on chrome m6. however chrome's tone varies lens to lens, and it sometimes does look weird. veraikon Posted April 8, 2008 Share #4 Posted April 8, 2008 so you're saying chrome color skopar is more durable than the black color skopar. No, I said what I said. It might be less durable - it might be not. There seems not to be any pattern. PS: Is this covered by CV ? - Rangefinderforum.com
stunsworth Posted April 8, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 8, 2008 After requests in RFF I was told that Voigtländer / Zeiss are only made in brass. "Silver" lenses are chromed and black are painted That's incorrect. The voigtlander 28mm Ultron and 90mm lenses are certainly made from what appears to be brass and then painted, and yes, the black wears rather easily to brass. The smaller lenses - 21mm and 15mm in my case - appear to be anodised rather than painted and haven't 'brassed' at all. I think the smaller lenses are made from aluminium rather than brass. I had an early black Ultron 35/1.7 once which seemed to lose its paint quite easily, other later lenses I have seem OK, I think they learnt how to make the paint stick better! cbretteville Posted April 8, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My experience is the same as Steve's. My CV75/2.5 has paint loss and brass showing where the paint is gone. The other smaller lenses do not, including the CV12. The wear marks are much more like the ones I see on my black Leica lenses. - Carl
stunsworth Posted April 8, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 8, 2008 Maybe I should add that the 25mm also appears to be made from aluminium - I have a silver one, so it's not strictly relevant to the original question.
cbretteville Posted April 8, 2008 Share #9 Posted April 8, 2008 Steve, the black 21 is indeed made in aluminium. As are the 12, 15, 25, 25P and 28/3.5. Probably the 21P, 35/2.5, 35/2.5P, 35/1.4 and the 40/1.4 too. The 50/1.5 I'm not sure, feels like the same paint finish my 28/1.9 had. - Carl
earleygallery Posted April 9, 2008 Share #10 Posted April 9, 2008 It really depends on what shoes you intend wearing with your camera/lens combo.
