gylee Posted March 15, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been thinking about a 35mm lens to use on my MP for a while now and while I summon up the courage to drop US$2000 on a Summicron, I thought I would pick up one of those little Voigtlander Pancake jobbies to tide me over. To cut a long story short, when I popped over to Tin Cheung Camera to pick one up, they had the new Nokton 1.4 in stock for a bit more than the 2.5, I liked the idea of an extra stop and a half, so it came home with me. Played around with it on the way home. It's not bitingly sharp, but it has quite a nice tone to it. The first is wide open (bokeh is painterly and the transition nice - look the at the text on the magazine stand, and then the boxes in the background). The second is stopped down to f11 in pretty strong light (an odd side effect of the lens appears to be that 40 story black men in their underpants appear on buildings in the background). I shot some film with it as well - I suspect that the lens will be better suited to that, and that's the main reason I bought it. I'll let you know how it goes. G. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Hi gylee, Take a look here Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 VMC. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cosmonaut Posted March 16, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 16, 2008 I am shooting the 40mm version of this lens and I really like it. More than my Color Skopar. I am sure you will be happy. Nice shots.
gylee Posted May 17, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted May 17, 2008 Well, I've had it for two months and if I never see it again, it will be too soon. It's a shame - a nicely made lens of a good size, with great specs. However, it really is just too soft and back focus is a very significant issue on the M8. It may still get the occasional outing on the MP, but I suspect it will mostly gather dust. It's not all bad news though - I bought a Summicron APSH today instead
Karreaux Posted August 27, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2011 I would love to buy this lens but it looks like Robertwhite is the only one selling it around here (Belgium). Anyone know other dealers/shops..?
michali Posted August 27, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2011 Try this French dealer, La Petite Boutique Photo, I've bought a couple of C/V lenses from him, very reliable and excellent service. TomB_tx Posted August 27, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2011 I've been using the 35 Nokton 1.4 MC for a year on my M9, and really like it in most indoor situations. I have no complaints about sharpness at f1.4 on my sample. In daylight I prefer the v3 35 Summicron I've had since 1971. The Nokton also shows more purple fringes on lights at night, while the Summicron has lesser red fringes, but for most images either lens is fine. I've just started using it on my film Ms, where the speed is more of an advantage.
lct Posted August 27, 2011 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2011 Haven't you focus shift problems with this lens? My SC version is hardly useful at slower apertures than f/2 because of that.
TomB_tx Posted August 27, 2011 Share #12 Posted August 27, 2011 Haven't you focus shift problems with this lens? My SC version is hardly useful at slower apertures than f/2 because of that. Nearly all my use is at 1.4 and 2.0, as I got this for low light use. I've never noticed the focus shift, even though I have at times used it stopped down outdoors, where DOF increase may cover the issue. In any case, it hasn't caused me a problem.
