I was using an Epson 1270 at the time and got a Niagara II CIS with G3 or G4 inks from Street Media I think. This greatly reduced the cost of my inks, of course, as the bottles held 4 ozs. However, by the time the 1270 jammed, about 2 years later, the difference in inks had not made up the $500 the CIS and inks had cost me. While I was messing around with all this stuff, the Epson 2200 arrived, with the K3 inks, and long lived prints. I bought a 2200 to replace the 1270 and all the stuff. It seems that Epson is running as fast as anyone else to give us archival, pigment inks that don't clog. I'm taking the easy way out. SO -- does anyone in the Boston area want a Niagara CIS and a lot of G3 (or G4) inks for their Epson 1270? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

It sounds like a 3800 refurb is an excellent choice for me, and that if the K3 inks don't come up to my expectations [although it sounds like they will], that third party inks will soon be an option. --Norm Actually, IF you do a lot of B&W on art papers, another option would be to pick up an older 7600 -- I see these selling for less than $500 and the 4000 for under $200 -- and then add the Cone ink set to it... Bill W Posted March 18, 2008 Author Share #43 Posted March 18, 2008 Hopefully my experience with refurbs is not reality. I bought a refurb 2400 a while back and it has been absolutely perfect. The first 3800 was not Epson's fault as it was damaged in shipping by Fedex, the box got wet somewhere along the way and it gave way damaging the back of the printer. The number two unit was a problem from the start with clogged print head. I tried to have a new unit sent to me and pay the difference and was told I could not. For an extra 100-, I don't have to be concerned about refurbs. From what you have been saying [i did a search on this site and Getdpi], the K3 ink sounds like they will work with good profiles, and the cost really is going to be not much more than Cone inks in 110ml bottles. Cheers, Norm I bought an Epson 3800 nearly two months ago (in the UK) and I am still waiting for two of the extra cartridges I ordered with it (Magenta and Yellow), the suppliers excuse is non delivery from Epson. I find it difficult to believe that cartridges for a professional printer would be unavailable for almost two months, is anyone else having problems in the UK with supplies?
