dmr_bob Posted March 9, 2008 Share #21 Posted March 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 4GB card for my DMR but it seems to be incompatible. It will not format. I have firmware 1.3. Is 2GB the maximum that is compatible with the DMR? From what I have been reading on other forums, there seems to be problems even using a 4GB card with the M8.

mjh Posted March 10, 2008 Share #22 Posted March 10, 2008 I bought a SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 4GB card for my DMR but it seems to be incompatible. It will not format. I have firmware 1.3. Is 2GB the maximum that is compatible with the DMR? From what I have been reading on other forums, there seem to be problems even using a 4GB card with the M8. The DMR isn’t compatible with SDHC cards (which didn’t exist at the time it was introduced). Neither is the M8.
dmr_bob Posted March 10, 2008 Share #23 Posted March 10, 2008 Can you use a non SDHC 4GB card with the DMR or are all cards over 2GB SDHC?
mjh Posted March 10, 2008 Share #24 Posted March 10, 2008 Can you use a non SDHC 4GB card with the DMR or are all cards over 2GB SDHC? With the M8, you can use some non-SDHC cards with 4 GB; I’m not sure about the DMR. The SD specification doesn’t allow for cards with more than 2 GB that aren’t SDHC cards, but still those cards exist and may be compatible.
robsteve Posted March 10, 2008 Share #25 Posted March 10, 2008 Can you use a non SDHC 4GB card with the DMR or are all cards over 2GB SDHC? Yes, non SDHC 4gb cards. The transcend 150x 4gb cards work in both the DMR and the M8. I am not sure about other brands. Robert
roguewave Posted March 10, 2008 Share #26 Posted March 10, 2008 Rich, I bought mine 11/07. It was NEW. I bought from someone I have trusted for a long time. I have seen some of the dmrs resold by Adorama and others in the city. Not the same as what I purchashed. My dmr IS NOT FOR SALE! I am not solicitaing a sale & plan on keeping mine. I once sold my first M3. I won't make that mistake again. Yes, I'd love a FF sensor so I can really use these magnificent R lenses as designed and will probably buy a new digital camera (hopefully a Leica) to use with R lenes when it makes sense, but this product is by far the best digital platform offered by Leica to date. Herr Kauffman needs to wake up and realise this. The future is to build on the this platform and augment it's development. I am enjoying my M3 & recently aquired M2 vey much. They make me work in a more contemplative & soulful way, but they are not the future. The M is about romance and things unseen, The R is about getting things done right. I hope Leica supports the heart but thinks with it's brain.
topoxforddoc Posted March 10, 2008 Share #27 Posted March 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm with Ben. The DMR has been a great product - flawed, but ultimately capable of producing wonderful images. I shan't be selling mine either. Charlie
rsolomon Posted March 12, 2008 Share #28 Posted March 12, 2008 well i guess what your saying is that there is a difference between whats its worth and how much it cost- maybe that true -- maybe not i still say (to my knowledge -today - march 2008 ) there are no used DMR's in the USA that have sold for 6k. IMO offers.....advertised prices..... are not representitive of the market value.
roguewave Posted March 12, 2008 Share #29 Posted March 12, 2008 Rich, I don't know what the DMR is worth. I'm happy that I waited until I got what I wanted and more. Nothing is perfect. This tool has & does work for me. I am aware of individuals that have each purchased a used DMR for over $5,500 in the last 2 months. They have corresponded with me about my experience with the unit and it's reliability and functions. Leica has always attracted people that can afford to pay more than the market parses because they can. That story is as old as man and will remain so. I'm sorry to hear that you have sold yours, as you have always been an educated advocate and steady hand on the tiller when appraising issues. Please stay involved in this issue and others surrounding the future of the R system. You have made a substantial investment and I'm sure have reaped good fortune in images, experience and knowledge. You have often guided me to a happy end or around obstructions. To that end, I'm grateful. All the best, Ben
dhsimmonds Posted March 12, 2008 Share #30 Posted March 12, 2008 But, once you've lost your virginity, you don't get it back... Just do what they all do.....fake it!
rsolomon Posted March 12, 2008 Share #31 Posted March 12, 2008 Ben, Thanks - i sold my DMR to purchase the R10, in doing so i ended up with a Digilux 3 as a "gap filler". I am VERY interested in learning about the R10....and now VERY interested in learning about the digilux 4. I enjoy the kit lens and the various R primes i own. the D3 its so much lighter and smaller then the R9/DMR combo
Ivar B Posted March 14, 2008 Author Share #32 Posted March 14, 2008 Thank you all for your information. I will list a mint DMR in the buy/sell section soon,
rsolomon Posted March 16, 2008 Share #33 Posted March 16, 2008 .......I am aware of individuals that have each purchased a used DMR for over $5,500 in the last 2 months....... very strange ......These people overpaid market price for a used mint DMR - heck even new one. i wonder if they ever looked at: Dealer stock of used/demo, the leica buy/sell forum, other "for sale" listings, ebay..... who knows, i guess there are personal conditions where you might want to over pay
pgk Posted March 31, 2008 Share #34 Posted March 31, 2008 My local dealer has just shown me an R8/DMR which is for sale at £1995 (inc UK vat at 17.5% I think). What do you think of this price and would you think that entering the Leica R system with this would be a good move currently? Its tempting but I'm not sure (if anyone else is interested that would at least remove the tempatation!).
andybarton Posted March 31, 2008 Share #35 Posted March 31, 2008 A used, excellent condition R8 is about £500 retail these days, so I'd say £1500 for the DMR is very good value. Seeing as they are almost giving away R lenses at the moment, it could make the basis of a very good package indeed.

andybarton Posted March 31, 2008 Share #39 Posted March 31, 2008 I recently purchased a new R9 and DMR for $6.000.00. The Image quality is impressive. Was the DMR new as well?
robsteve Posted March 31, 2008 Share #40 Posted March 31, 2008 Leica's waffling on the R10 seems to have supported higher used prices on the DMR. Ivar's just closed at $5,100, which is a pretty good price.
