cocker Posted March 20, 2008 Share #122 Posted March 20, 2008 Civil disobedience is the only answer to these idiots and their Nu-Labour masters. I hope to see things that make the Anti-Poll-Tax campaign look like a Vicars tea party before too long!
earleygallery Posted March 20, 2008 Share #123 Posted March 20, 2008 "Officers again spoke to club officials, explaining the legislation again and highlighting the potential for glass bottles to present a health and safety issue, particularly with a number of families with children in the vicinity" THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!! How on earth do people cope at home with all manner of glass objects, bottles, glasses, let alone their windows?! Safety barriers, flouro jackets and 'do not cross this line' tape is the answer. Really, words fail me. I was having a conversation on this general topic with a client yesterday - not entirely sure how we got onto it. Of course the inevitable line was mentioned by someone, "but if you have nothing to hide then it shouldn't be a problem" - I asked if they'd be happy for the govt or police to install CCTV and microphones in their home, purely for their own security to ensure they were not at personal risk at any time................ farnz Posted March 23, 2008 Share #128 Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks for the link, Keith, very interesting. The article states: “In France, traditionally one of the great centres of street photography, the law now says you own the rights to your own image, so street photography's become a dead art." Presumably then, in France all CCTV cameras have been switched off? Pete.
stunsworth Posted March 23, 2008 Share #129 Posted March 23, 2008 Pete, there are far, far fewer CCTV cameras in France than the are in the UK. Also what's 'owned' by the individual is the copyright of their image, so there isn't a problem in photographing anyone, the issue arises when you want to publish such an image. earleygallery Posted March 23, 2008 Share #131 Posted March 23, 2008 Interesting article. I have met Matt and Sophie at a workshop they were running on Street Photography. I must e mail them a link to this thread. If we can keep up the momentum and awareness of this issue it can only help us, if not actually repair the damage that has already been done. earleygallery Posted March 26, 2008 Share #135 Posted March 26, 2008 I dropped Matt Stuart a line (can't find Sophie Howarth on the Tate website anymore). Dear Matt, I saw the recent article in the Times re. Street photography. You may be interested in the following thread on the Leica Users Forum; http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/barnack-s-bar/47709-my-fellow-criminals.html I think only by keeping up awareness of this issue can we in any way challenge the implied message to the general public that anyone with a camera apart from the obvious tourist is a danger/threat. I recognised your name from the article as I attended one of the Workshops at the Tate a while back. I fully intend to carry on enjoying my street photography! Best wishes, James Earley
IMast Posted March 26, 2008 Share #136 Posted March 26, 2008 Bill I have just emailed my MP asking him to support Austin Mitchell's Early Day Motion which currently has 80 signatures. The reference is EDM 1155 dated 11 March 2008. If we all do this then we might get the numbers up substantially. Most MP's have their own email which you can get from a web search of their name. By the way, you better hope that the bridge you are by on your mock up card doesn't fall down or they have you banged to rights! Regards Ian
farnz Posted March 26, 2008 Share #137 Posted March 26, 2008 Good idea, Ian, I'll do the same. Come on, you UK lot, let's make our feelings known through our poor, overpaid, underworked MPs! Pete.
earleygallery Posted March 26, 2008 Share #138 Posted March 26, 2008 Ditto, we should all make the effort to do this, it can only help. It will be the first time I've ever written to my MP! Now, who the hell is he/she?!
farnz Posted March 26, 2008 Share #139 Posted March 26, 2008 Done. Ditto, we should all make the effort to do this, it can only help. It will be the first time I've ever written to my MP! Now, who the hell is he/she?! James, I found my MP through this link: WriteToThem - Email or fax your Councillor, MP, MEP, MSP or Welsh, NI, London Assembly Member for free The site finds your MP by post code, sets up a block letter (email) so that you only have to enter your details and the content you want to include and then emails it to your MP. It could hardly be any easier. Pete.
